New 6xc....love it!!

Its been a long road but my new 6xc built by Dennis VanTassel is a tack driving monster!! It is built off a Rem 700 action with a 28 1/2" Brux Barrel and a Canjar Trigger. This is my first ever built rifle and I dont see myself ever buying one off the shelf again.

A friend and I built a 400 yd range today and I got to shoot the gun myself. I affectionately named it "Knock Knock". All I have shot is 100 yards so far trying to dial in groups and today I found a great set with 37.6 gr of H4350 with a 115 DTAC Coated bullet. Off the back of a 4-wheeler for a rest I shot a 4 shot group just under 1/2" with 3 of them at 1/4". I tried as much as 39.5 grains but the hotter it got the more it opened up on me. I am looking forward to Cronographing to see what kind of speed I am getting.

With the exception of the action and stock, I obtained every componet from Accurate Shooter forums!! I love this site and look forward to my next build..:)

The 6XC is a real sleeper....shooters should realize the potental the cartridge has....I put mine together 6 yrs ago or so...brass & dies we not as easy then...mine is an 8 twist 27" heavy Pac Nor....screwed into a s/shot Savage action of course..just keep your H4350 handy.....

I built mine back in 2006 and I have to say that day in and out it is one of the few rifles/cartridge combo's I have that will “deliver the goods” all the way to 1K. Shortly after the build and at the urging of a good friend, I took the rifle to a 1,000 yd. sling/prone match and shot a 194-11x at my 1st match! Needless to say, I was hooked from that day on. I've found RL-15 to work a little better for me, but it is just what my rifle likes. Congrats on picking a fine cartridge, now, let see those pics. :)

I am posting a few pics. I named her "knock knock" and she has been a great first timer for me!! I have been working on some loads and came up with a couple that seem to fit well so far. Taking into consideration I have done zero case prepping and cannot even imagine it getting better after that :)

The target pic was a 5 shot group with the one to the left being a foul shot. The other 4 are in the ragged hole :)

1SHOT....would you mind sharing your load info? Also, what kind of speed are you getting? Mine doesnt seem to like it over 2900 fps...starts to open up pretty good.

The group in the pic was shot with 115DTAC bullets and 32gr of Varget powder....2700fps...but she loves it!

I am getting pretty good results with H4350 at 37.5gr which is giving me groups as well as the Varget and I am getting 2900 fps with that. My concern is that if I go to the 1000 yd mark I wont have enough velocity to keep the round stabilized. ANy comment or advice on this???

Thanks

How far off the lands are you with the 115DTAC? Or are you into the Lands?

The bullet becomes more stable as it slows. What you want to avoid is entering the transonic region below mach 1.2. QuickTarget shows the DTAC doing 1458 at 1000 with a 2900 muzzle velocity. You'll be fine.

MBK...I believe I am about 10thousands off the lands.

SLeepy....thanks for the info!! I am looking forward to stretching it out in the near future.

Thanks for the replies..:)
