New 6CM Barrel for Tactical

I screwed a new Lawton barrel on one of my Savage actions and put it in a A2 McMillan stock, built 105 Amax's in .243 Winchester Brass and went to the range to fireform and have a good day. At 300 yards I shot a 10 and 11 shot string, both in two minutes each to see if this will hold group as it warms up. The reason being is because the barrel is .650 at the muzzle. Both groups were under .5 moa. I believe once I build my 115 DTAC's it will be more like my Krieger. I was hoping to get 1 moa out of this barrel with a 10 shot string because of the contour, needless to say I'm very pleased. This will be used for tactical shooting and some of the matches start with a 10 shot string.

from what I'm hearing it'll cost me too much to shoot long range at Bradford any more may have to stick with shooting F/Class at Malabar and an occasional trip to Manatee you know a 6CM got to stretch it out

I'm going up to Swainsboro GA. to stretch it out to 1200 yards on 9/10. On 9/11 we are shooting a modified prone shoot at 600 yards. The place we are going to is called Cool Acres. There is 5 of us going, just like old times. ;D

Yea, we had a go around yesterday morning about the extra hourly fees and qualifying cost for the 850. This is starting to be a bunch of crap, and if it keeps up, I'll be taking my toys and go other place's. I'm not afraid to drive.

This barrel did real well out to 700 and then at 850 I dummied out and screwed the windage in backwards. After more shots then I'd like to fess up to and mounting bad attitude, I put it away. After I got home and pulled it out of the case I was off about 3.5 moa. The berm is nothing but grass and we could not read my misses most of the time. This was all shooter erorr. 700 was tight. Going to pull it apart and send it to have it QPQ'd. I know the 6CM chambering gets great life if you shoot it the way it is meant to be. I believe this process, works and we are sending enough barrels out that the cost has been quoted to be 40-50 dollars a barrel.

Are the Amax working for you? They blow up in my guns.

Also, you really need to try the 115 Berger VLD's. I think they shoot slightly better than the DTAC's and have less wind drift.

Hey Joe, good to see you on the site. I had no blow ups, they all made it to the back stop. I used them to ff the brass since that is what I had on hand, the twist in this barrel is 1-7.65. I wanted to try the pointed DTAC and see how it shoots. Have you tried these? I still need to give you a call to catch up on a few things. I was messing with my cell phone and lost your home phone, if you could pm me it I'd appreciate it. I've got a few shooting questions for you and it is just easier to talk over the phone. I may just have to try some Bergers, it's just hard to go away from the DTAC.
