New 6br rig. WOW!

It took me 3 years to finally go custom. I took my first 6br rig to the range yesterday, for load development. Thanks to all the info I gathered here, I managed a .162 group! First 6br. First try at neck turning. First "nice" front rest and rear bag. I just had to say THANKS for all the help and good info I have received here. I'm a happy guy. Special thanks to Nando for those Whidden dies. Couldn't have done it without them. Oh, and the icing on the cake. I put a scope on a Swedish mauser I got from jpretle. She shot a 1 1/4 in group, at 100, with factory PPU ammo. I might have done a jig, as I collected my targets. Thanks to all, the forum, and those that helped. Josh.

Oh, really? .405-.243=? OkOk I know. Another guy, claiming to do a nice group. Here it is. Outside the grey marks.😳

It's the rig I just made a stock for, except I bought a Rem action fitted to a Krieger barrel. 30 in straight taper. .268 neck. Moved the NF 12-42 onto it, in place of the Monarch. I have to admit: I see the need for a flat, thin butt bottom, so I'm gonna make some more stocks. I just found a guy that has some 3&4 in. Thick boards for cheap. Gonna see em, next week. This winter, the chips will fly! Josh.

Thanks, Thud. I somewhat copied a Tikka Master Sporter stock. Made the grip to fit my big hands and did an ebony inlay on the forend, with a few other changes. The Sporter style stock covers the mag with wood. I liked that. When I finally get the 5 round mags, it'll get better. Josh.

Thanks, mshelton. I have a wide variety of guns. Each one is a little different. From my Fathers old 35remmington pump. my Grandfathers model 55 Winchester 30-30, Sakos, Tikkas, Brownings, Colts, Savage, Weatherby, Rock River, Stag, old mausers, etc. i've worked on loads, for all of them, as part of the learning curve to bring me to this point. You're right. This gun is a whole different game. I still have a bunch of areas to tweak with this one. I guessed on the col. I think I'm jammed. I'm not sure how much. I stuck a bullet in a case and closed the bolt . Measured the rifling marks and went from there. I have the chamber casting materials. I just got in a hurry to shoot the gun. Now, I have a formed shell to measure with. Started with Varget and V135. Hornady bullets. A lot to do and still got a good group on the first try. I'm excited.

When you get the right equipment, with the right loading system, the right components and of course someone who can put it all together>>>that equals a very accurate rig! Great shooting and glad you are doing so well!!

To all that have replied so far, (Josh you just stand over there and do the pee pee dance) doesn't that give you that warm and fuzzy feeling? ;D Several years ago, my old shooting partner with the help of several shooters gathered up our spare parts and build my partners grandson a 6BR for his birthday. You should have seen the smile on his face after the first pull of the trigger! You couldn't have wiped it off with a brick stick. Don't hold me to it, but I think I even saw a tear in grandpa's eye. OK Josh you can return to the computer. Well done, you should be proud.

Simply great, Josh, the whole project - congratulations!

Excellent craftsmanship on the stock, and adding the ebony is a really nice touch.

And all of this begs the question - - when will you be shooting this jewel of a rifle in a match? ;D

Thank you for sharing!

Nando

Hey! Thanks, Nando. I' still doing my PP dance! I have a lot of work to do before I go out in the "Public eye". This may be just a flook, after all. I will need to confirm repeatability, first. You know what they say about the blind squirrel. Right now, I'm the blind squirrel. That group might have been just luck. Some one mentioned 5-5 shot groups. That's where I'll set the goal, for now. Then, you may see me next to you on the firing line. Of course, I'll be shaking in my boots, knowing your history! I also have a lot of "wind reading" to learn. I'm still a pup, as far as that goes. It sure is a fun and interesting ride, though. I got the perfect response from the Wifey, when I showed her the targets:"Eah. Is that good?" Josh.

I'm a strong proponent of getting kids involved. I'm the guy that parents look sideways at, as I push the kids to shoot and learn. I "collect kids", for shooting. I grew up with it and I want to pass it along. My son was called to the Lord, a few years ago. He was my shooting buddy, and I miss him. I use that energy, on other kids, as best I can. It is a beautiful thing, to see the smiles on their faces. We need to pass it along. Josh.
