new 6br project questions

I have a Borden alpine single shot action with a jewel trigger, and just ordered a Lilja 3 groove 9 twist barrel #7 contour.
This rifle will not be used in competitions, I will be using this for some coyote hunting, but mostly for practice reading wind and working on my positions. Most of the bench shooting will be only to work up loads, maybe some varmint shooting), so I am not looking for a BR type rifle. Most of my shooting will be prone and sitting with a sling unsupported for practice and fun from 100-400yards. I will probably use either a bi-pod or shooting sticks while hunting or shooting farther than 400yards. Right now I am thinking on having the barrel finished at 24",to save some weight and gain stiffness I am not too concerned about the loss of velocity) I will start with the 88gr Berger for shorted ranges or calm days, and maybe try the 95vld or 105 amax at longer ranges or windy days.
I am thinking 6br for my cartridge due to its accuracy and barrel life, probably a no turn neck). I really like the McMillan stocks that I have, and would like a good suggestion for a stock that will work well for my plans,I was thinking maybe the Mchale)
Please let me know if you have any suggestions or idea's that may help me out. This will be my first custom rifle.

Well, I don't really consider myself a tactical type, but I noticed that Bruno had some A2 and A3 stocks that look like they could work for me. Does anyone have experience with these for general field and target shooting?

I have a Mcmillan A5 on my ultra mag. Great stock for shooting from prone or sticks. I really like the cutout to pull the rifle into your shoulder snug, for me that works really well. From the bench the A5 is little annoying to shoot cuz the bag wants to ride the cut out for your hand in the back. The only thing that bugs me bout their stocks is the long wait when ordering, 4 to 6 months now. I have a H&S stock similar to their A3 on my 6BR that I use for coyotes and varmits with a 22" 1:10 pac nor. Its very nice also and I got the stock from brownells in 4 days. I would say if ya can stand the wait a Mcmillan A5 would be worth the wait. If ya want it now the A3 or H&S you can go wrong with either.

Just my 2 cents hope it helped.....

The A3 is widely respected in the LE SWAT community as a great tactical stock - meaning that it works well from a variety of shooting positions, formal and improvised, as well as for a variety of different shooters.

Although my McMillan is the M40A1-3, and I like it very much, the A3 is another favorite of mine. Very good stock for all-around work. That vertical grip and high comb help the shooter build a solid position.

Regards, Guy

1. I'd leave the barrel at least 26" to start. You can always cut it back.

2. Look at the Robertson and Master Class prone and position stocks. Personally I find them much more suitable, particularly in the wrist area, than the A3/A5.

Here is a 6BRX in a Robertson H&H stock. The shooter, Eric Smith, recently set two National records,200 and 500 yards) with it.

Thanks for the input, I will definitely take a look at the stocks, I will look into the barrel length as well, although I am willing to give up some velocity for more stiffness in the barrel.
