Hello,
I'm new here but felt compelled to report on my new 6BR Encore pistol. I had to do it on the cheap because I don't have a lot of $$$, family responsibilities and life will do that to you.
Since I already had a SS Encore frame,it DID have a Jim Henry trigger job) with nothing to do, I called T/C’s Fox Ridge Outfitters and ordered, with my Christmas bonus) a SS tapered 15" 6BR barrel and received it at my door in 13 days! How does that happen? My luck usually isn’t that good.
I put a spare Burris 3-12x scope on the barrel with Burris Signature rings using a Steve Stratton four-hole base. I also had an extra long, pillar-bedded Virgin Valley laminated forend I’ve been hoarding for quite a few years with a sling swivel stud out near the end of the barrel that I got out of the vault. A Shooter’s Ridge BR bipod got me to where I needed to be with the gun but I needed something to shoot out of it.
Due to another stroke of luck, I found some new, primed Remington 6BR cases for $24 a hundred,it must still be Christmas) so I was able to buy 400 of them,I can’t afford the expensive Lapua brass). Since the cases were already primed, I just neck-sized the cases and seated some Fastexed Nosler 70 grain bullets in them over 31.0 grains of Varget – I could only get the bullets within about .070†of the lands since the T/C’s chamber seems to be quite long. I wondered if all my economical efforts would come back to bite me with poor accuracy. . .I was right – it did.
I can’t get anywhere near the accuracy some of you guys are getting. . .my groups are averaging only about .5†at 100 yards hitting 2,850 fps - .6†on really bad days, but my best group so far has been .391†and I’m still fireforming. I don’t know if I’ll ever do any better since I’m still testing, but this Encore is sure NOT FOR SALE! I’m keeping it!
Why didn’t anybody tell me the 6BR was such a great round? Oops. . .I guess you did!
I’m an experienced reloader, but I’m not really a good shot and certainly not an expert at shooting groups or anything, but this Encore in 6BR makes me look GOOD – even with my el cheapo approach in getting the non-custom barrel and Remington cases! I can’t wait to get some time to shoot it at something with fur on it! I’ll try to post a picture of the gun if I’m able to borrow a buddy’s digital camera – he did take a picture of my .391†group though so I’ve attached it. The squares are exactly .5" in the photo.
