New 6 Dasher barrel-First shots?

I pulled an unfired Borden 6 Dasher build out of the safe and decided to get it shooting. I’m a little rusty and I’m finding it harder to remember stuff I know I knew so I’ll ask the brain trust. I only have 500 Berger 105s. I also have 600 105 Amax and 2k 85 Sierras.
Should I shoot 100 or so cheap bullets thru the barrel, then work up a load for the Bergers or should I just start with the Bergers?
Also, I’ll be using Alpha brass. I have CCI 450s, BR 4s, Varget and RL-15, H4895 and some others.

Pick a powder/bullet combo run a preliminary OCW test, followed with a seating test. Adjust as needed after barrel settles down.

I just found 500 Hornady 108 ELD in a cabinet, along with 100 Sierra 107s.
Sorry AckleymanII. One of my 6br’s loves the 105 Amax.

With a good barrel it should start shooting pretty quickly. With my 6BR I started scenar 105s .006" into lands with 30.1 Varget. That produced a 0.168 4-shot group for rounds 16-19 through the barrel. I later settled on 30.3. I know this will be controversial, but I think a lot of guys waste a ton of time and barrel life with OCW, playing with the wrong variables.

Everyone on here will have a different opinion on this one. Two things that seem to have worked for me and I'm getting closer on a new Brux barrel so I'll apply my normal.. First I avoid a dry barrel for the first 2-3 rounds. A wet patch followed by two dry ones will leave enough lube to avoid dry friction. Second go slow and avoid heat for at least the first 5-10 rounds friction. I do push a patch between every round for the first 15 just to get a good look at things and to keep the bullet from running over junk from combustion. I use a fast powder and odds and ends of bullet for the first 15. Round 15 is where I get serious and if its not shooting by round 20 I won't waste any more time.

Many people, myself included, break in a new barrel by firing a shot and cleaning, firing a shot and cleaning for the first 5 shots or so. Then firing two shots and cleaning for a few cycles, then 3 shots and cleaning until you're seeing very little copper after shooting . A bore scope will help immensely with this process as it will show how clean the bore is and possibly save steps in the break in effort. Some barrels, due to the degree of internal finish, break in much faster than others. It's time consuming and not very exciting but the pay off in a sweet shooting barrel is worth the trouble.

My 2¢ worth.

Do talk more Boss. Did you ever change the seating depth?
