New 6.5 Stabil Powder

Has anyone used this powder. I'm considering trying in .243 Win. and 6.5X47. Your feedback would be appreciated.

I started load development with it in a 223 with 90gr Bergers. I still need to do seating depth testing but right now RE17 appears to be shooting better.

I ask this question because I honestly don't know the answer.

So, this powder is supposed to be temp insensitive. The tests I saw shows it is no better than the average stick powder. Since no one has published temp sensitivity for ball powders, how does anyone know it is better than any other ball powder? Because of the name?

Just sayin.

I've seen some testing on jonnys reloading bench and my conclusion was it was the most stable ball powder but not in the same class as ar comp or rl-16 or varget. The es/sd was not great either. I believe it's for people using progressive presses that struggle with stick powders?????

He only tested the one powder. He didn't test it against any other ball powders that could be just as good.

Is what I meant.

If you call Western and talk to the techs about their ball powders they will tell you their ball powders manufactured in Florida have to go through strict temperature sensitivity tests. But no one has ever done a temperature sensitivity test for all powders (which absolutely blows me away).

I mean people test the craziest stuff, but when it comes to powder temp sensitivity they just believe the writing on the can.

Tried it in my .223 with Berger 75 and 80 VLD's. Not so good for me. Maybe the heavier bullets will do better. Seemed slower per the hits on target. Much lower.

I run imr8208xbr. I know it's a stick powder but it does meter very very well out if my homer Culver Lyman 55 and from what I understand its one of the best temp insensitive powders out there

I bought a pound to try right before Christmas and loaded up 25 rounds for a ladder test, finally got to go out and shoot it. My Chronograph failed. ok I failed...my batteries died on me and I forgot my spare pack. At 100yds out of a Savage 12 LRP 39.2 Grains my best group was a .97". I will try again when I can get out to the range again. We ford a creek, and when it's rainy there is no fording. Do have some RL-15 that has done well. Varget spoiled me.

I know this thread is a little old but I figured that more people have had the time to try this powder out.
Accuracy?
Velocity?
Thanks in advance,
Gary

Accuracy and speed are good based on two calibers I have tried it in.
22Creeedmoor and 6.5 Creedmoor. I can’t really attest to the degree of temp insensitivity.

I did some batch and pressure run up testing in one of my
wild cats (see the SA284 thread) I also sampled some in my
6.5 Creedmoor that settled on R-16. I'm getting as good with
my ES and SD's. Accuracy has been quite good, Gain in velocity
is also good with a note.....As you get near the top, it ramped
up fast. So if you start to feel a heavy bolt, 1/10 at a time is
suggested, or just stop there......I noted that at the same
velocities I was getting with R-16 and a good 95% case fill, Staball
looks only about 80%. Sure has a lot more room in the case, but
as I mentioned, build slowly after that point.....These are my
findings at this point, and yours may be totally different.

I used it in my Valkyrie, and it gave pretty good accuracy but high standard deviation.

Dave was that with Berger 85.5gr hybrid bullets, 6.5 Staball, mag primers in 224 valkyrie? How much jump? Did you try 0.015"or seating depth test? Are you still shooting f class league ? I want to see a 300 out of you this season.

It was with 80 gr Sierras, loaded to magazine length. I was using Rem 7 1\2 primers, I guess I should try magnum primers. Yes, I am still shooting F class,But late in the afternoon. I'm not one of the lucky retired guys yet! LOL
And believe me, I want to see a 300 also! Thanks Steve.

Got a few 95 gr. Sierra TMK loaded in Hornady brass (Fed. 210M GM primer) with it for my 6mm C M to test for powder charge. Will see how it works and get back later on. Still kind of hot here to shoot with any satisfaction at all.
