5" wide is legal but at least as far as Williamsport is concerned, if the sides of that stock where it contacts the front bag are higher than .5" its not legal.

That looks taller than .5" in that picture.

The only way the stock can contact the front bag taller than .5" is if there is no external bag ear squeezers.

Since bags are hard to keep that short, the only way to stay inside that rule is don't make the sides of the stock taller than .5"

I dont do much IBS shooting but im pretty sure that rule is standard with them as well. I was called on it at a IBS match for one of my stocks early on. Fixed now.

Williamsport Rules

45.1 This sandbag upon which the stock or part thereof rests is permitted to wrap upward around the sides of the rifle, for no more than 1/2 inch, maximum.
45.2 Rules 45.0 and 45.1 need not apply to any sandbag not supported by a retainer and that permits movement without restraint.

Just noticed it and thought you should know.

Butch,
Yes that's correct the .5" inch contact with the front rest is universal for all stocks.

As far as 17# light gun width goes, its covered under this rule.

Williamsport rule

56.0 There are no restrictions to the width of the stock.

Im pretty sure IBS has no restriction on width either but i dont know the exact IBS rule that allows it.
