'New' 30 carbine.. Try trail boss first?

Brother recently bought a 30 Carbine, 1943 issue... we have 110gr Berry's bullets for it. We scoped the barrel and checked the headspace and all looks fairly good. What are your thoughts on trying a few low pressure loads with Trail Boss first? Or just start out with starting load with Lil Gun? Looking to shoot it on the 4th :)

Pretty well covered over the past 75 years or so.
The M1 Carbine is designed to run on a very narrow pressure curve.
H110, 2400, AA#9, and several other newer powders in that range.
Running low pressure loads does make a very nice, soft shooting, manually operated rifle.
One step above a 22LR, and the small Carbine size is ready made for smaller statures (kids).

I run IMR 4227, AA9, or 2400 since I have those on hand. I have been running AA9,13 grs even behind surplus LC 110 gr ball. Runs all my M1s and the M2 in full. Punishing to shoot on full, but it runs.

30 Carbine loads like pistol rounds. I don't download it, you have a very narrow window to function the short stroke gas system in the Carbine.

H110 or AA1680.
Check the CMP web site for reloading the 30 carbine. we load for several of them as well as a Ruger Blackhawk in .30 carbine. 14.5 grains of H110 or 15 grains of Winchester 296 function great in all we load for.

Be sure the piston retaining nut is tight. If it works loose it can damage the gas cylinder.

I would think a low pressure load could be a problem since the gun recycles using pressure in the barrel and a piston, from the powder charge. Also, some fast burning powders flash rate changes with low charges. I can't say it won't work because I've never tried.

Trail boss won't cycle it. Also, be very stingy with the trail boss, they are not going to be making any more

Trail Boss is too fast. I use LilGun, max load for my 2 carbines with 110 grain projectiles is 16.5 grain, minimum start loads 13 grains. I use CCI small rifle magnum primers.
