New $255 Lab Scale from Denver Instrument

You know guys I've been thinking about this and one glaring fact is that Denver Instruments supports this site as an advertiser. You don't see any Acculab banners do you.

For that matter more than one company that constantly gets free press in our forums won't support the site at all! Not with ads, donations, or even a thank you. They could care less if this site was even here tomorrow but we constantly mention them and give them our dollars.

As far as shooting web sites goes you must all admit this IS the very best one! I don't see the product reviews, photo's, Blogs etc. anywhere else. What keeps this site going is the few and far between donations, and the advertisers. All those articles and Blogs are written for free and donated to the site. I have never received one penny for anything I have written, in fact the purchase of the equipment tested has been out of my pockets not the sites. There are companies that support the site with product donations for test. Kreiger is a big supporter, along with Dave Kiff of Pacific Precision, just to name two. Our Moderator then puts in countless hours per week putting it all together for all of us to enjoy.

To keep this all going the site needs support financially. Since donations are few at best then it falls to advertisers. If we don't support the advertisers they'll go elsewhere and then you know what happens.

So what am I asking you to do? Pay $35 more than the Acculab and buy the Denver Instruments to get a better name and perhaps a better product and warranty just because they support the site? No, I won't ask you to do this, but I will ask you to take a minute and think before you make your next purchase from anyone, and if you can spend your dollars at a vendor who does support the site support that vendor in kind, and be sure to tell them you saw their product/advertisement here.

I want to keep this web site, i can't imagine going back to the way it was without it.

Danny

Danny -- i was just coming here with the same thought...Lets support the advertisers that support us!

How many other shooting sites have we seen a Denver Instruments ad on? NONE

Cheers,
Jason

OK guys, point well taken. But if DI & Acculab are both owned by the same corporation, what difference will it make whether I buy the VIC123 or pay an extra $30 for the DI scale? Like you both, I'm very appreciative of any corporation's decision to help sponsor our site, and will certainly take their generousity into consideration when making a decision to buy a product. But at the same time, I really wouldn't expect two divisions of the same coroporate family to become sponsors; if Acculab & DI are both owned by the Satorius group, a purchase from either one should generate some favorable feedback - especially if you mention that you heard about the product you're buying on this site. As I mentioned, I'm in the process of setting up a new vertical mill & equipping it with tooling - that leaves precious little cash to buy a scale. I gotta try to get the most from each dollar right now.

OK you guys. :comp:

Denver Instrument listened, and they've knocked the price to $255, through the holidays.

Now, I don't want to hear any complaints... this is your chance to support a sponsor and, in turn, support the site. :thumb:

Well, it was time for Danny to "walk the walk" as well as "talk the talk"! So I was Numero Uno to place an order. I ordered mine this morning from Gail Heeke, the nice lady at Denver Instruments.
Honestly you get Denver Instruments reputation for quality, their unsurpassed customer support network, and an unbeatable price....so what are you waiting for!

Jason,

I had to crack the piggy bank on this one too, with Christmas coming etc. but at that price I couldn't pass it up either.

James Phillips is supposed to do the review and compare it to his high buck Denver Instruments balance. James, you out there? What's the status on that?????

Danny, I spoke to Gail this morning also. She said my scale won't ship until late in the week - but being this close to Denver,300mi), I should have it by next Monday or Tuesday. Need to get started making a powder trickler out of some stainless stock so I'll be ready for it when it gets here.

Ok guys I've spoken with Gail and she is shipping me a unit to run a series of tests with. Also I am now setup as a dealer to sell their products. She will be shipping me a unit out as early as tomorrow or as late as Monday to run these tests with. I'll get with Paul and find out how extensive of a test he would like to run and let him put the results together.

So if I can help you guys out I'm going to do my best in getting you best prices I can. I hope to have the scales by the end of next week and tests conducted over the weekend on various weights and powders with verifications on weights against my TR-603D.

If things go well Reloaders Nest will become a stocking dealer for Denver Instrument scales, and, as with all our products, you will find pricing very attractive.

For those of you who've already ordered one of the new DI scales and haven't received it - I spoke to Gail at DI this morning about the delay in getting my scale, should've had it Monday, according to what she told me when I ordered it last week). It turns out they didn't have the calibration weights to ship with the scales and have been waiting on them to be delivered. She said she was unaware of this when she took my order, but the weights are supposed to be delivered to DI today. So, the considerable list of backorders should be shipping yet this week.

well guys

i emailed them to see about getting one to scottieland here. i thought i'd support the 6mmbr cause and i have been thinking about one for a wee while anyway.

turns out it is 120dollars to get it shipped, then i am gonna get stung with vat at 17.5% and import tax, and then a handling fee most likely by the postoffice or carrier.

so in short, i wanted to buy one but it is prohibitively expensive for me to do so here..... i am currently exploring uk options, which tend to be about twice the price of what you guys have to pay.

nowler,

Does customs still hit you that bad if a friend from this side of the pond "gave" you one for "donating" $255 plus a bit for shipping? I don't think it's and export controlled item.

customs only hit me,very hard normally) if it is being purchased.... presents don't normally get stung i believe.

if you are suggesting that i donate you some dollars and you send me a present, then that sounds very cool to me....

derek

Derek,

I'll do some checking with FedEx on shipping costs and I will PM you with the details. What city are you in?

Greg

guys, i could live with a 4-10 week delivery if could buy stuff at the prices you guys pay!

some examples...

1lb of varget or any other hodgodon powder - 29gbp = 49USD we cant buy the 8lb jugs here cause no-one can afford it!!!!!

1 bottle of glenlivet - about 25gbp. = 42USD
note that most of us don't drink this. i am more of an islay malt guy myself, or talisker or highland park.... maybe we should start a whisky thread, it is called whisky and not "scotch" by the way.....

1 custom rifle, ie rpa quadlock action, border barrel, robertson f-class stock etc. etc. 3500gbp = 6011dollars. however, some smiths over here are like way more than this, and i doubt that many of them are up to the qualty of the smiths you folks have over there..

a new barrel fitted is about 600dollars = 1030 usdollars

nightforce nxs 8-32 is 1050gbp = 1800usdollars

crazy eh? but what can you do. i don't know how wages compare though. i am a teacher and earn 30,000 gbp a year = 51000 usd....

anyway, a contact in america would be much apprecitated. you scratch my back and i'll send over the scotch;);)

cheers

derek

I tracked down our UPS man while in town for lunch yesterday, and he had my new MXX 123 from DI. Didn't have time to do much more than get it unpacked, leveled, and convert the units of measure over to grains before having to leave last evening, but when I got home, I used it to load 16rds. of new Lapua 6BR brass with the fireforming charge,33grs) of Varget, more brass for my latest Dasher). This thing is sensative enough to register a single grain of Varget dropped into the pan, and doesn't seem to drift nearly as often as my old,'92) Dillon Determinator, or the Lyman 1200DPS I bought a couple of years ago. I think it's going to work well enough to replace them both, though I'll probably keep the Dillon as a backup and to use for sorting cases by weight. I've got it located as far as possible from the single fluorescent fixture over my loading bench, and am running it through an UPS in an effort to filter line voltage fluctuations. Will be interesting to hear from James & Danny when they've had a chance to wring theirs out.

Found out from Dennis that the brown truck won't be delivering on Friday since they are scared, and rightly so) to be out on Black Friday with all the crazy shoppers, so I'll have to wait till late Monday to play with the new balance.
We will keep you all informed.

Danny
