New 243 Winchester Reloader.... Need some advice.

Over the weekend I did some trading and ended up with a Cooper Model 22 chambered in Win. 243. The rifle has a 1 in 10 twist barrel. What I am in need of is recommend loads from you experienced shooters. Bullets, Powders, Primers, Brass manufactures. The supplied test target, which is sweet) shows a load of 41gr of H414. How far off the lans should I seat the bullet? I have some Sierra, Berger, Nosler, and Hornaday's. Please give me some powder recommendations also. Do any of you shoot a cooper on varmints,Woodchucks here in Ohio)? Thank you for your time and any information that you can pass on. Richard

First off, nice last name. :thumb:

For me, and remember every gun is different, 70 grain Sierra Blitzkings seated .010' off of the lands work well over a dose of Re-15 in a Winchester case and CCI Mag Primers. Your gun will be different so you will need to experiment some.

That 41 grains of H414 would be a good load for the 85-95 grain bullets.

Try the Hornady 87VMAX just off the lands. H414 works OK, however, it tends to foul more than other powders. Try Hybrid 100V with 42.5gr for starting. I use 44gr with the Berger 88 High BCFB and the 87Vmax. My Savage action/Kreiger 29' barrel spits either pill at 3400+ with 100V.

The Berger is more accurate in my set-up, however, the VMAX is close and devastating to groundhogs past 500 yards. Use CCI standard or benchrest primers. I have great luck with Lapua or Remington brass.
