New 243 AI help

Ok Here's some info on my 243AI
28" Krieger
48.0 R25
106 Clinch jumped 10 thou
3375 FPS
No pressure signs
Sub 2" at 600 yds.

Start with about 48 gr of H1000 and work up. $8 with a 105-108 should get you around 3000. You can get 3200 easy if you around 50-51 grains. It all depends on your chamber and bbl too.

OK you want posts, here's mine. My personal view is that you are using too much powder. You are trying to overpower the bullet to higher speeds.,Why??) If you are looking for accuracy then use the manufacturers spec.s and keep your speed to 2900fps or at the most 3100fps for the 87grain bullets.

You will need to decrease the amount of powder and start at 10% under the max load for that weight head. Then work up your loads at 2 tens of a grain till you find the sweet spot for your barrel. Thats where the harmonics of YOUR barrel lets the bullet leave the crown just in the middle of the barrels arc up and down once you have pulled the triger.,Most accruate) I believe you said you have a 1 in 8 twist. If this is correct you will need to use the heaviest weight bullet you can find. The normal twist for a 243 is 1 in 10. The 1 in ten twist is good for stablizing 65 to 105 grain heads at 2900 fps. Sorry but that's the law of physics.

If you want faster speed then use lighter bullets - but at that twist they will blow up,come apart) before reaching the target. Until they come up with a bullet that can handle the faster spin and not come apart you will need to stay in the 2900 fps range. Based on your previous test you have a good load that is giving you .2s at 100 and 1.5s at 300.

If you are hit by a car traveling 45mph you will be just as dead as a car hitting you at 70mph so what's the hurry??

If your punching paper then you are fine just as it is setup, if your looking for meat then get a 7mm rem mag, that will give you speed LOL).

Good luck and shooting
Jim

Information!

AHHHHH

Thank you guys for posting. At times there seems to be an over abundance of info, then nothing. I am not into tuners or wild stuff. Just trying to understand and learn.

Thanks again!

Have settled on the 90gn Berger match HP and 45 gns of H4350 in mine . 3280 FPS from a 9 inch twist 26" Lilja and accuracy in the 3's off a bipod . Lapua brass, Federal Goldmatch primer .
I wouldn't be happy with sub 3000 FPS with a 108gn in .243AI personally but that's just me .

I shoot a .243Ack Imp As well. Mine is a Shilen 28" bbl 1x8 twist .270 neck. I fire-form in a dedicated re-chambered .275 neck rifle that allows me to neck turn to.2675 before loading a bullet..that works great so far..and leaves a case that needs no further resizing after firing in the target barrel...natural brass spring back holds the bullet soft seated to the lands...Leaves neck walls straight, but don't believe I'd go any thinner....brass won't last very long if too thin a neck wall. Great build you have going!! I really enjoy mine. I use both Lapua and RWS brass and see a difference worth spending the money on both...but Rem,Fed, both work well if culled and prepped correctly...PS I neck turn in two steps ..rough cut after expanding with a K&M expander using a Forster Hand Neck turner, then finish with the K&M neck turner to .2675..work but worth the results
