new 13.5 twist Krieger 6PPC

bbl came in from Claunch Customs Memphis,Tn. today and I screwed that puppy right on and wiped the bore out and got started as I hope to shoot it this Saturday at Gallatin UBR Match,,using brass from 1st PPC bbl ,I had to bump the shoulders back just a little,,maybe .003 and I just started with what I was shooting

29.5 VVN 133 and Fed205s..with .002 neck tension anything longer than 2.180 gets pushed back in the case so I start at 2.180 and work back .004 to 2.176 and 2.172,,switch to Rem 6 1/2`s and repeat the 3 different seat depths,,I may work back shorter later but the other bbl shot best with these bullets at 2.175

I cleaned bbl good and loaded rounds at 2.176 and 2.172 with both primers ever .2 grs from 29.0 to 30.0 to try tomorrow,,the 2nd and 6th 5 shot group from brand new bbl makes me feel like I should be able to find something to shoot through it by Saturday,,

THANX TIM,,looks like its gonna be another SHOOTER,,,

pic of first six 5 shot groups just getting a rough idea and getting a few rounds through it ..

What are you using for an aim point?
the 1st five I set the dot on top the red line,,the last one I put it on the bottom,,I aint got but a couple score targets and was saving them for tomorrow,,I was really not expecting much and like to have at least 50 rounds on a bbl before getting serious,,

I think I am just gonna go ahead and finish all my brass and load my ammo and hope for the best,,

68 JDS BT 2.175 OAL
29.5 VVN 133
Rem 6 1/2
Lapua brass trimmed to 1.497 necks turned to .0105 I guess as loaded rounds are .2645

about as good as I can expect with the very light headwind and boiling mirage,,it is hot and humid as heck,,

out of 150 pieces of brass my longest was 1.501 and shortest was 1.497 so I put them all at 1.497,,I guess they will be toast before needing trimmed again,,

Is that with Norma brass?

What neck diameter did the reamer have?

That's pretty darned good shooting! Good job on your load work up too. Using a Rem 6 1/2 primer is an eye opener too. I never even considered that. Good luck this weekend! WD

I shot Norma brass that came with rifle for a while but when I got new brass I got Lapua 220,,and now I can always screw that 12 twist back on and make new brass without killing a new bbl

the chamber is .268 neck by T Claunch

according to my Magnetospeed the 68 JDS BT is getting 3337 FPS avg with ES of 25 ,,
I know the speed at 100/200 BR isnt a big deal but that seems pretty fast and I dont really like that ES but it is shooting well and I suppose that is why the speed isnt a big deal at point blank,,

I hope the weather doesnt go haywire by Saturday as I have to work 12 hours next 3 days and wont get a chance to tweak anything,,

You're at a good spot! Your right about where I like to shoot! Id recommend being ready to drop a couple of tenths after about 10:30!

Bart I did the chrono test at about 3:00 and it was hot and humid in northern middle Tn,,I was trying to find the rifles max load in the hottest part of the day,,and with an 8 inch drop tube I had powder half way up the neck,

POI was a very little higher this afternoon than it was about 10 AM but it seemed to group about the same,,

I was at 29.5 133 and getting 3337 fps at 3PM,,do you think I need to add a couple tenths to the loads that will be shot early before it gets real hot ??

I cant load at the range but I could take some loaded at 29.2-.3 or some at 29.7-8

Eric,
I'm shooting in the same stuff and just up the road a little ways. What I've seen when shooting 133 is I start out around 29.6 in the morning and then drop back a bit. The load often goes back up in the afternoon. 3350 is a good number to shoot for in the morning and then ease back. Thats is for these hot humid days we have been having!

I may load half my ammo at 29.5 and half at 29.3 and shoot first 2 targets at 29.5 then the next 4 at 29.3 and the last 2 back at 29.5 just to see if it helps,,

I can look at my scores the last few matches and start off at 100 with a couple good targets and then struggle for 4 targets and then finish with some really good targets at 200,,

I may try some 68 FB after I run out of these last 3-400 BTs,,

That sounds like a good plan. I think you'll stay pretty close on the tune.

I shot a 499 today on the new bbl that had 70 rounds on it this morning and using mostly brass that hadnt been shot in it yet,,
bbl now is at 200 rounds and brass should be ready to go,,

remember also that before March of this year I had never shot a match or own any wind flags,,my main goal for this season was to learn the game and shoot a 500 so I am tickled to death and having a ball so far,,

Looks like you shot a good score in some rough company. Congrats to you. They're all good fellows, but show you no mercy in competition. :D:D

Did you shoot your targets using this plan?? WD
