Never seen this up by the crown!

If it shoots like you say. DONT MESS WITH IT! I cant tell you how many customers called in with reports like this on Savage barrels when I was at SINCLAIR INTERNATIONAL and we started selling the Hawkeye Borescopes. Guys were taking barrels off that shot bug holes. For no reason other than looks.
IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT.

Savage FTR shooting 88 ELDM with N135 powder. Been absolutely hammering with tiny groups.

Recently thing have not been grouping so well so it was scrubbed with butches bore shine, Thorough clean and pasted with Iosso

Expected a naked steel bore when the Teslong was put in but look what is up by the crown ! This pile of carbon and a few other spots in the lands near the crown. I have never seen carbon build up this far up the barrel.

It looks to me that metal is missing. It isn't black. I always thought the cleaning rod bristols kept the steel from touching the bore. I proved that the brass bristols can scratch the bore, but no way they can remove chunks of metal.

With the magnification of these bore scopes, something that looks like a pit, inclusion, or missing metal, is in many cases something standing proud. The more you use the scope, the better you get at telling the difference.
Yeah.
From time to time, it's difficult to tell which is a land and which is a groove. It's easily sorted out - lands are narrow; grooves wider but still happens from time to time.

The good thing is since it is a Savage, you can easily take the barrel off, cut about 1/2 inch off, recrown it and screw it back on.
I am curious enough to see if that’s all it needs, and you can get it off, send it to me, I will recrown it for you If you pay the shipping.

Let’s see if it goes back to shooting as before.
Dang! I thought Christmas was in December.

Jackie - if your offer still stands, I pulled the barrel off today. I will PM you for any additional instructions.
