Nevada Deer Hunt

After 11 years of applying, I finally drew a non-resident deer tag in Nevada. It was a desert unit and the hunting was tough! I saw four smaller bucks opening day and then did not see any deer for the next four! We glassed this guy from over a mile away and put him to bed. We got to 800 yards (as close as we could with zero cover) and got set up. Two hours later he stood up and I dropped him with my 30-28 Nosler.

I have been hunting deer for 35 years and only found one drop-tine buck; a single dropper. I have never seen a double dropper. Not the size I was after but I couldn't pass up such an unusual

Definitely one that would grace the wall. I would be very proud to have gotten either one of those bucks. Congratulations......

That is the kind of buck that maybe doesn't meet your dreams and expectations. You hum & haw and wonder if you'll find a better buck. Then, it hits you that this is a helluva buck and you'd be crazy not to shoot it.

Glad you made the right decision. Congratulations!

What was your load ? What unit in NV ? How far ?
My load is 215 Hybrids with H1000 and CCIs. Velocity is 3040. The shot was a hair over 800. The shoot-to distance was 800 even. Lots of mirage and switch air currents I had to stare at and concentrate on for a loooiong time.

We hunted unit 132. Quite desolate. My truck broke down before we hit pavement and I had to have it towed 320 miles to get fixed!
