NEO-X

Tod Hendricks

Gold $$ Contributor
The new NEO-X is hands down the best rest I have ever used!

The NEO-X combines the best features from the NEO and Mini in one package, plus a few extra cool features. I‘ve only shot one match and a little garage time. Its a little heavier than the mini, 6lbs., doesn’t matter, it will be flying with me.

I’m pretty proficient with the Mini, but there are still some times I wish the prep period was 6 minutes not 3. The NEO X has the swiveling head like the mini but elevation and level is controlled like the NEO, plus unlocking/locking, adjusting elevation, adjusting level can all be done in the prone position.

As typical for SEB, the machining is like a work of art.

There's another thread where @seb weighed in with all the details but Ernie (the US dealer) @SEB-USA posted this a week ago or so which should answer the ordering questions a little better.

The NEO-X is amazing.
The prototype is here as of a hour or so ago.
Seeing it and handling it for the first time this morning, I was awestruck (I know I am prejudiced).
It will be going to a number of shooters from different disciplines, in the near future, that has already been chosen by Seb.
NOTE: There may be some changes to what you see now based on the reviews given by others.
I will be contacting everyone on my NEO/NEO-X waiting list soon to find out if they want the BR version or the F-Class version. Seb also has F-Class feet for the NEO-X as well.
Everyone who was already on the NEO waiting list, who doesn't get a Standard NEO, will automatically be on the NEO-X waiting list, based on the date they got on the list.
If you are already on the Standard NEO list, and you know you want the NEO -X, I will make a note of that as well.
If someone doesn't want the NEO-X (who is currently on the Neo wait list), I would also move them to the MINI-X waiting list (keeping the same date) if they so desired.
For those on the Standard NEO waiting list, currently, I will still be getting some more of those from Sebastian.
Seb has also informed me, he will continue to make the Standard Neo for a time, until interest fades, then he will completely stop production of the Standard Neo.

I have updated my website (https://sebrests-usa.com/) with some pictures of the NEO-X as well. I am obviously prejudiced, but it is the smoothest rest I have ever used. Sebastian was born and raised in Indonesia, and he makes his products where he lives. He is one of the nicest people you will ever meet.
He did borrow Jason's rifle. Sebastian typically shoots TR, but I would say he did pretty good shooting Open.
I have a fixed price for the NEO-X, but I am guessing that when it is set-up for F-Open it is going to cost more than the set-up for benchrest. There will also be color options (I don't think that is going to change the cost), but I am not sure what options will truly be available yet. There are several two-tone NEO-X's in the hands of people. As everyone can tell, there are multiple prototypes being used currently, and the one that was sent to me, has already been in multiple hands already, and is still being passed around. Once everyone gets to use the prototypes, and gives feedback to Sebastian, he will make final changes/tweaks, then, I will be answer questions about price and options.
Wait times should be the same as any other rest (Approx 7-11 months), once a person is on the waiting list. If possible, contact me via email: ernieemily@yahoo.com about getting on the waiting list. I have had people getting on the NEO-X waiting list since the first of the year, but there has been a flurry of activity since Seb starting posting pics and videos on social media as he was tweaking the prototype, and even more once the prototype's started to be handled by other shooters. I hope this answers some questions. Thanks for tagging me John.

Thank you for the positive feedback Tod! Very much appreciated!
Glad to know you like your new rest. It's the rest I promised to give you as per your win in the US Nats last 2021. In case you find something that needs to be improved or revised please let us know!

Having used the prototype unit for three days in the QRA Queens in Australia, I found a few (minor) details that might probably need to be changed or improved.
The minuses (just imho):
1. The clip-on delrin that holds the joystick & driver on the carrying handle needs to be more damage-proof. I broke it one side during the comp.
2. Need longer F-Class feet for grassy mound/firing line.
3. Probably need to interchange the lever locks..? Bridge/height lever lock on the same side as the handwheel and the swivel lock on the right hand side..?
4. Probably need to make cutout on one end of the carrying handle for faster plug/unplug..?
5. ..... etc?

Generally I am 90-95% satisfied with the new rest, it feels solid/stable although lightweight.
I used the standard 'L' shaped front sandbag, not because I prefer it but I had no time for experiment etc. I did not try the hard-sides bag.
Rest & rifle setup was easy, once the height and 'windage' are set, I lock the swivel top and the bridge. Preparation (rifle-rest-rearbag-shooting mat-hexta system setup) needs about three or two minutes only.
Side tension adjustment on the side bags are good/consistent.
Joystick action is fine/super smooth, I can quartering the center X easily @ 1,000 through the scope.
I like the removable leveling screws myself, we can store the rest inside the drawer in the back of double cabin everyday after the match. I also like the carrying handle.
Longer joystick (+ 6" extension) was needed with the extra long stock that I used.

I was in the very lucky position to try out one of these at our last shoot.
Our Club range is 1,000 yard bench rest.
Majority of our club uses Seb-rests in one model or another.

The rest was very well received (a stunning anodised red...) by everyone. The slickness of movement of the handle superceded anything at our range on the day, and showed a large range of movement.
The wide footprint when deployed is very stable.

The swivel head was a bonus allowing "off-set" shooting (tried on purpose with one of our members.)
Some very nice simple ideas that some might not even see - the the position adjustable locking lever (i see in the black one above uses philips head to reset the position, but a nice touch would be allen key)
.
Another buying option suggested by an individual which would be appreciated would to have a choice of colour accents for various part eg. red main body with black handle, etc.

One thing that was brought to our attention which we felt missing would be the position for placement of a cartridge holder for those who shoot bench rest.

The bag the rest came in was a lovely touch, and was very nice how it packed down with very little effort.

Large F class feet would be a bonus for those who shoot in the relevant classes.

All in all, its a very nice rest, with ease of set up and use.

(as a small foot note-on the day of our shoot which your pre-production rest was present, a new ukbra 1000 yard light gun record smallest group of 59mm (2.32") was set with a seb mini as part of the rifles "recipe". The same individual also holds the ukbra factory sporter rifle class smallest group record too.)
