Needed: old fashioned gunsmith

My local gunsmith for the last 42 years had a heart attack and died two years ago. He built me a switch barrel 300/375H&H on a Mauser action. I need it finished.
I got a 90% inletted blank from Walnut Grove Gunstocks several years ago to do two rifles on.

I need all this finished. I am near Boise, Idaho, but it can travel to have good work done.

I might be wrong, but I've never know of Beanland to do classic style wood work. Jim Kobe takes om such work, and is an ACGG member. Might check with him. (contact info can be found on the ACGG web site)

I know many gunsmiths (real gunsmiths...) who practiced the art and science of inletting stocks. Some became so good at it that they set up shop a 'stock makers'.

Unfortunately, the advent and lust for fiberglass and carbon fiber stocks by the amateurs, has just about put an end to the specialized stock makers.

So instead of trying to locate a gunsmith who also inlets stocks you might do a search for stock makers:

Hmmmmm..... I've been making stocks, some from a blank, some from a pre-inlet, for 31yrs,,,, didn't realize it was an "art and science", just some know-how, attention and eye to details ,and patients! NOT looking for work! Got my hands full now! Past retirement age and wanting to get some of my own done, and keep my 'regular' clients happy.

He'd be a good choice! Grouchy bastard..... Duane wiebe would be another.....nice guy and also very good acgg member as well

I talked with my cousin in Oklahoma, Jerry Newman (Newman Precision). He thought Jon might, but no go. I am waiting for a call in the morning from Wyoming Armory. Several here have recommended them as a "do all" shop with bolt gun experience.
I bought a couple single shots from them awhile back, including a Miller "F" action.

As much as I respect your knowledge and achievements, you have apparently missed both of those descriptions. Maybe to you it's just cut and scrape and all that repetitive inletting in order to achieve perfect contact or... Maybe you're just wanting it to sound clever...

The best stockmakers actually do create art, like scupltors who chip away at stone to reveal their subject. Stockmakers visualize the pragmatic shape and size which we hold, which enables us to manage the sight picture and ultimately the shot.

But beneath the surface of the stock blank resides the potential of the shape and the beautiy of the grain structure. Shifting the position of the shape a little front or back or side to side can magnify the beauty of the grain structure as well as enhancing the pragmatic structural soundness of the stock.

My gunsmith in Mesa Az does wood. Made a very nice stock for a few of his own rifles. Let me know if you want his number. I dont know what he would charge if he wants to do it.
