Need Tig advice.

When you think you have mastered the TIG process-
To hone your fusion micro TIG welding skills-

Fusion TIG weld your initials into one of your finger nails.

Do not attempt this at home unless you know exactly WTH you are doing!

To enlighten you as to what you are attempting, light a match & quickly blow the match out & touch it to a finger nail-

On another note-
During any fixture process,if you burn your finger(s),quickly w/o hesitation, grab your ear lobe which will dissipate the heat into your ear lobe & the oils will prevent any blistering. It works & works well!

After doing a few that makes sense, it seems the welding part is not all that hard but positioning will take me a little while, it's just like any thing we do that takes practice to build that muscle memory. I definitely need to get the smaller torch, this one is working for my practice work but when I actually weld a handle it's a challenge to get positioned, I'll be adding a foot pedal soon as well, I'll just build it up as I can and eventually have a nice little system. Thanks for the help!

A mini rig with a flex head helps with tight positions, a clear cup will also alow you to see around corners easer. Sol/flux will help for the stainless if you are lacking a purge .
I never cared much for a pedal ,I know some guys that do sheet metal and love it for the thin stuff. I do like a button on the rig. Have fun with it and remember if some one asks if you "can weld it /fix it " tell them what differance does it make its already broke

Do you happen to be in the houston area, if so come by and I’ll show you what you need to know to get your job done and a good black to start and from that point you will be amazed at how easy it is!

I’m in the houston area thanks

My tig plant is a GYS 250 A/C D/C synergic.its a real good set.foot pedal and water cooled torch.A18 or A15 tripple deoxodised filler rod work great.316 on stainless I use quite alot.Aluminium is no problem.it soakes quite alot of heat and wants high amps on the thicker stuff (pre heat with oxy acetylene on some occasions)but the water cooled torch keeps things cool.practice makes perfect..don't give up.

I have a fairly new everlast ac/dc with water cooling and the upgraded pedal and gas lens. Its the most precise and fine tunable welder ive ever used. Itll get as thick or thin as you want to deal with. Its more designed around AC tig and is the only one ive ever used where you can actually tell a difference in like a 1% change in clean

Many great suggestions and ideas shared above . Does not matter what type of welding is being done if you dont stay with it and do it on a regular basis you will find yourself not being as efficient at it.
Started at age 14, now at age 71 ask me how I know

A grinder, and a can of paint
Can make a welder what he ain't

Happy shooting to all.

A possible learning source is an adult education course at the local technical high school.
I learned TIG at night at our Tech high school, low cost and good teacher.

I am a pretty decent welder, stick, mig, Oxy acetyline, and Tig. I have spent countless hours practicing. I have been on the phone, or computer with Dan Armstrong countless times. I even traveled to Dan's house in Fairbanks AK. My advice is not to start on bolt handles until you have good puddle control. Bolt handles can get burnt up in a few seconds. Understanding heat control, fusion welding, gas purging, and propper filler wire tecnique is a must. Dan is a no BS guy he can really help you with the learning curve. I bought a Miller Dynesty 200. It is not a beginer Tig machine. With carbon steel and stainless all you need is a DC machine. 120 amps or less. Finally Dan is not paying me for his praises. He will call you a jerk or worse if you don't agree with him. He has been put on probation and banned a couple times for his forum manners. Haha

Ain't no better than Dan at what he does. He is a pretty damn good motorcycle guy also.
