fellas i need some help in finding bases and rings to mount a 8x32x56 nightforce scope on a remington 40x 22-250 and it has factory barrel- i know i need to use signature rings and right now i have leupold bases, std) and 1" rings and they work great but this 30mm with the big bell is the problem - i emailed burris and they told me they didnt have anything to offer for that big of a scope - well i dont know where to go from there - i will say this - i dont really like the weaver style base - they may be fine but it sure looks like there is a better way to mount a scope - just doesnt seem very secure not that i throw my gun around or anything but -- well like ruger mounts now thats a mount to me - how do the pros mount a scope like this on the big barrel guns - thats what i want - i appreciate any info and a link or order numbers would be even more appreciated and i promise not to ask you to mount it for me thanks

GD,

Personally I use Kelbly two screw rings on Davidson bases, and never had a problem. Give Kelbly's a call or order out of the Sinclair catalog. Kelbly's will be a bit cheaper. Cost should be around $100, or a little more.

Now if you feel you got to have super heavy duty then Badger Ordnance one piece 20MOA picatanny base and Badger rings is the ticket. Price though will be $250+.

I have the Kelbly's on my 6BR competition rig, and the Badgers on my tactical rifle. Never had a problem with either.

Burris has extra high signature zee rings -- they will work on any weaver type base.

i dont like the regular kelbly ringns unless your base is angled. But with a straight base, Jerry Stiller and Bill SHehane sell ANGLED rings

Recommendation depends on your application. If your rifle will see a bit of rough handling, I'd be inclined to look at any of the Picatinny Rail + Cross Slot Ring combinations. For example, Leupold Mark 4, Badger, Nightforce, Ken Farrel etc. They are all interchangeable with one another so you can mix and match bases and rings if you really want to. I've personally used Leupold 1 piece Mark 4 base on a Rem 700 short action with Badger rings but I've also used the Leupold rings. Despite all the marketing hype, I don't see a lot of difference between them. They all cost quite a bit. I frequently remove the scope and refit using a 65inlb toque wrench and the return to zero is excellent. I won't claim it to be perfect but I don't think it's ever been more than 1 click,.25MOA) out.

For a lighter duty and cheaper combination, Leupold's QRW or PRW weaver sets are also a good set-up. I've not used any of the super light aluminium rings seen on bench rifles but they seem very popular when weight is an issue and recoil isn't excessive.
