Need someone to measure a .284 round for me...

Can someone who has a .284 winchester running 180 gr pills give me a OAL please? A few different numbers would be fine to juat ball park it for me.. I an unusually longer short action and mag and wondering if it may just fit... thanks for any help!

I don't shoot a .284 Winchester, but my Sierra Manual has a diagram that lists their measurements for their test rounds. BTW, their max bullet weight is 168 gr. But here goes;

Trim to length (casing): 2.160
OAL w/loaded bullet: 2.800
Neck (roundness with bullet loaded: .320
Base of Casing to base of shoulder: 1.775
Base of casing to top of shoulder: 1.885

Berger Manual and Hornady Manual show much the same measurements except those two recommend Case Trim to Length at 2.170 AND Berger does have load data for 180 Gr bullets while Hornday doesn't go that high either.

Hope that helps some.

My match round is a .284 with a 180 grain Berger Hybrid - seated with the boattail just off of the donut - 3.25"

I'm at 3.24" OAL with my round touching the lands. Havent finished load development to determine if my rifle likes to jump or jam the bullet.

Well that may not work... i got home and measured it... mag is 2.967 max. I reckon itd have to run some shorter lighter bullets to make it work, but not sure if thats worth wasting time and money with... id get more bang for the buck sticking with a 7mm08, 6xc, 308, or something... then just hold off until i do a long action build for a 284 barrel...

I had a similar inquiry about the 284 OAL on here recently and quickly realized that if you truly want maximum performance from that chambering in with high BC bullets, while intending to use a magazine, it's best to use a long action
