Need some knowledge please

I have a friend that has a Browning A bolt in 300WSM in stainless. The gun has a leupold 4x12x40 scope. The gun is about 7 years old and has been fired less than 100 times. It looks brand new. Can someone just give mea a ballpark on price it should be worth?

Best bet is to look up the same model, scoped, on gunbroker.com and look what others are asking (and whether or not they have bids). Do not sell it to a local gun store nor leave it on consignment. He or she will make more on an auction. I also think it is best to sell the scope separately from the rifle. Folks just won't pony up extra for an attached scope (though it might hasten a sale this time of year).

watercam is right, your friend will get the total value of the rifle selling to an individual. As far as an FFL auctioning off a rifle on their own, this is prevalent. If the FFL buys it, he has to get it as low as he can to make money. He's giving you a fair price, it's just his fair price. He has to make a profit -period. I am an FFL in a small community. Word gets around so I have to be very careful how I treat folks.

If it's an A-Bolt Medallon with BOSS in good shape it's worth a lot. Beyond that it depends. Here are some that SOLD on GunBroker, and selling prices are usually very different than a fixed or reserve asking price:

Selling on GunBroker is an art. Someone who really understands how it works and what motivates bidders will get a much better price than a novice. There are some dealers who will sell your piece for you. Some of them are well worth it and some are not.

I'm generally inclined to disagree with the philosophy of take the scope off and sell it separately. If it was a big game hunting rifle, was used with the included scope and you have good targets to show, the combination will sell for more than the separate pieces. There are a surprising number of people that either can't or don't want to be bothered with with the bases and rings and scope and mounting and such. Unfortunately many guns for sale on GunBroker have a BSA or Simmons that came off something that never worked right in the first place.

Thanks a Bunch guys for the info. This really helps. Dave Berg I really appreciate the extra effort giving me some info and putting it on here for me to look up. I have never been on gun broker before. I personally do not sale guns I try to by what I need and want and then hang onto them. This guy thought he was going to take some hunting trips and they never worked out so he has this gun setting around collecting dust. He wants to just have a idea on a fair price. Thanks again gentlemen!
