watercam is right, your friend will get the total value of the rifle selling to an individual. As far as an FFL auctioning off a rifle on their own, this is prevalent. If the FFL buys it, he has to get it as low as he can to make money. He's giving you a fair price, it's just his fair price. He has to make a profit -period. I am an FFL in a small community. Word gets around so I have to be very careful how I treat folks.Best bet is to look up the same model, scoped, on gunbroker.com and look what others are asking (and whether or not they have bids). Do not sell it to a local gun store nor leave it on consignment. He or she will make more on an auction. I also think it is best to sell the scope separately from the rifle. Folks just won't pony up extra for an attached scope (though it might hasten a sale this time of year).
