need some help

I am looking for some comparsion ballistics between a 7mm-08 and a 30TC. The only thing that I understand is that the 30 TC is basically a shorter 30-06. So is there really a benefit or is this just a way to help sell the tc icon. I like the 7mm-08 beacuse it seems a little better than a .308 past 300 yds. I have been shooting for a little while, but I really have not much experience with reloading and ballistics. I am trying to learn as much as I can about ballistics. So which would be better for hunting larger game as well as shooting. I appericate all advice sorry the ignorance.

Rudy, we're at or at least very near cartridge saturation. The last 10 years has seen an explosion of new cartridge's both wildcat and factory. Some are pretty good, the winchester short magnums are at least a bit of a better mousetrap. A lot of the new cartridges ballistics however, are virtual twins of stuff we already have. The .30 T/C is "claimed" to produce like 150 or so FPS more velocity than the .308 with 150 and 165 grain bullets. I doubt anyone can duplicate that velocity with reloads.

It really comes down to what you like, can afford, and is pratical for what you're hunting/shooting. If you have a good shooting 7mm-08 I'd stick with it.

If you just want a 30 caliber, I'd go with the .308 a proven round. Especially if you're not a reloader. You can buy .308 in Backwater, USA's hardware store, military surplus etc. 30 T/C probably will be a while making it onto everyone's shelves. If you're a reloader that really doesn't matter. But don't be shocked if your 30 T/C reloads don't quite reach the claims. And even if they do, a deer at 350 yards isn't going to know the difference between 2100 FPS and 2000.
