need some help w/20 vartarg

I just got the dies today a need to load some rounds for the gunsmith. Im using H4198 w/19.1 grains and 32 vmax. I have no experience w/these so a little info would be great. I bought the book form woodchuck den and it still leaves alot of questions. This was the starting load and its compressed already is this normal are they all compressed? It gives an oal of 1.940 which seems long since the bullet is only 1/3 of the way in the neck. What oal do others use? Any input would be great like bullets, powder or any loading tips. Thanks

We have a recommended load of 18.7 H4198 with the 32cal V-Max.

See: http://www.6mmbr.com/20caliber.html

There may be some density variations from lot to lot. You should also be starting 10% low with any loads, so that would be about 16.8 grains. Barrels really do make a big difference.

Re seating depth, your appropriate OAL should be based on where your actual throat begins. Use a soft-seated bullet or the Stoney point OAL gauge to determine where the lands begin in YOUR barrel. Then I suggest you start .005-.010" into the lands with that bullet.

If your bbl hasn't been chambered yet and you are making dummies for the gunsmith, I suggest having about .120-.140" of bearing surface in the neck. The Vartarg neck is about .20" long.

thanks for the tips ill try that load tomorrow. its tough to load for a gun without it being here. I just want a few dummy rounds and a few for function tests.
