Need serious help! 30-40 craig

I went in my local pawn shop just to see what steals i could find... they happened to have a sporterized springfield 30-40 Krag... the stock is trash, but the action bolt and all is in excellent condition... the barrel looked a little short though like it had been cut off maybe too...

question is... is it worth buying this for $450 just for the action and trigger assymblies? Can you find original stocks in good shape? And a barrel at that?.. its a pawn shop so cash talks... im sure i can get it a bit cheaper... the action is excellent tho...

Am i better off waiting till i come across a excellent condition original rifle?

I did a quick look on gunbroker and didn't see parts... I have no idea where in the world I would even start trying to find parts to rebuild one to original... Never barked up this tree before, has me shying away from it..

Not gonna find very many good "deals" in most pawn shops - they probably didn't pay more than $100 for it - bunch of crooks!

However, I did once buy a '68 Chevy Biscayne with a 327 engine and low mileage for $500 at a pawn shop. Some pawn shops (but not many) are run by intelligent people.

Pawn shops are in business to make lots of money. Can you blame them? I dont agree with the way they chew you down because most are at wits end for some cash and they know it. So they take advantage of it just like banks, car dealers etc.

A good friend of mine got banned from a pawn shop/gun store. The business owner offered a guy only $450 for a really nice AR-15 that had alot of bells and whistles in addition to a nice leupold scope. Buddy of mine offered the guy $650 and bought it right there. it was easily a $1500 value with all it had on it plus the ammo the guy had with it...moral of the story...dont make an offer to someone inside of the establishment. coax them outside first...lol
