Need input on Dakota wildcat for 1,000yds!

I am trying to build a 1,000 yd Silhouette rifle in a wildcat based on the Dakota cartridge line. This is basically a 7mm necked down from 330 Dakota, about 5 more grains of powder than the standard 7mm). I am sparing NO expense here. I will be using a Schmidt & Bender 34mm P4 Police fine reticle scope with something like 25X capability. Looking for all the help I can to make this project a success. I see posts touting the WSMs, and SAUMs, and 284s and similar off-shoots. Can I make a legitimate 1000 yd gun out of a case with 95 grains of powder capacity? Your input is appreciated!

The short answer is yes but why? You don't need anymore speed than what the other three calibers you mentioned will get you. It does not matter what sort of 7mm super pooper you come up with you still have to learn to read the wind.

you can make a great 1000 yard rifle out of a 7mm wsm or a 7mm-300wsm. no need to bring the big beefy cases with next to nothing load data and only one source of brass.

Amen!

I wonder what the OP did with his project from 8 years ago. He hasn't been seen here in the last 2 years.

If he built that 7 Dakota, I am sure he has burned out a few barrels shooting Silhouettes. I bet he learned something in those 8 years. Matt
