Need Input from Eliseo R5 Shooters

Hey - New to the forum. I've shot smallbore and air-rifle but no highpower. I have no equipment and have been reading a lot and going to matches in an effort to learn. So far, I've decided to start with a match rifle rather than service and from what I've read 6mm is the way to go for XTC. I want to get the best equipment I can but I need to do it economically. I think the R5 is my solution but I was looking for some advice on components from those who shoot them. Specifically, I'm looking for vendor recommendations for barrels, sights and the action. Also wondering if most of you chose to assemble yourself or use a smith. If so, can you recommend a smith for the barrel work? Finally, just looking for general refereces on quality, craftsmanship and your general satisfaction with the rifle. I'm in WI and would really like to know if anyone is nearby.

Boy are you in luck!!! You live in a Target rich area. Coming from the International Small bore scene you would be well served by the R5 in 6BR. It can be made to fit you like your Anshutz. The 6BR should be easy to reload for as all the components are readily available and Accuracy is top notch. I Saw my first one on Newyears eve last year in Cali and talked to Garry himself I was very pleased and ordered a single shot for Prone long range.
Randal Gregory is your man for gunsmithing and getting the parts all put together. He lives there in Wisconsin or Minnesota and has a excellent reputation for High power shooters.Ill have to run down his web site for you and reply.

I would give him a call and see what he likes to use for Barrels and the action stuff. There are a ton of options out there and seams like each gunsmith has his own preference on what they like the most.

Then its the sights and all the other stuff to buy like reloading components and dies.

He is in Medford Wisconsin. Just as a Side note He has also won the 1000 yard Leech Cup at Camp Perry in 1992. Neat.

Russ,
This is great. Thank you very much. I agree with you on the transition from smallbore to a match rifle. This was the primary reason I chose not to start with a service rifle although I would eventually like to try it. Did you have any trouble accessing his webiste?..I'll keep trying. I guess I'll start with a smith/machinist like this one and go from there. Thanks again for the help.

jwl,

It's a very strange website. Doesn't have separate pages. Everything just kind of slides in and out and overlays the main page. Just keep clicking, eventually you'll figure it out...
