Can you buy a decent set of binos for 150 bucks or there abouts? Im looking to buy a set as a gift. thanks Lee

you get what you pay for, $150 is a very low budget for quality glass...

the best I could find was a couple of Nikon binos, at least Nikon makes good glass..

Skeet,
You do get what you pay for in glass and rifles. That being said it also depends on what they will be used for. I have a pair of Nikon EX that are as clear as any made. They are heavy even with the chest straps for long term hiking. I bought a pair of Steiner Predator 8x22 binos with exceptionally clear glass that are light weight and I end up taking them everywhere. Small and light and I got them on eaby for less than $100.00. I'm sure glad that I did!
Regards,

The Binos will be used for my mom watching birds, and the deer in her yard, from the kitchen window. The pair she has now aren't worth picking up and holding them to your face. She just needs something decent, not great. I had a set of Bushnell binos a few years ago, that were around 100 bucks. They were not build all that fantastic, but they did have decent glass. These binos will sit on the kitchen cabinet most of there life.

I use a pair of Nikon Prostaff I received as a gift. They are compact and marked 12-25 x42. They retail here in Canada around
$150-180 CDN, probably much less in the states. Clear and light weight.

I use a pair of Nikon Travelite 8X25 binos for bowhunting. Extremely clear/compact/lightweight/rugged and only about $90. I use Leica Ultravid 10X42 binos for rifle hunting so I'm very familiar with good glass. Those little Nikons have excellent glass for the money. Be tough to beat 'em in that price range. Here's a link for them if you're interested. Has other people's reviews listed at the bottom of the web page

Bushnell make auto focus bino's they call them perma focus I have had mine for around 10 year and love them. Everyone I let look through them buys a pair they are awesome! Never go back to reagular binos again! I think they make them in 8, 10, or 12 power. Mine are 10.

Redfield are now owned by Lupold. I have several Bushnell, Nikon and I really like the Redfield pair I got last year.

Skeet,

For the price take a look at the Celestron brand, to my eyes they have great glass and have been involved in making telescopes and such for many years. I have a pair of astronomy binocs I have used for yrs shooting PD's that are just fantastic. I just ordered a Celestron spotting scope for F-Class and this is after looking at all kinds on the line.

Is there better, of course and it comes at 3-4x price.

Take a look at these for Mom: http://www.telescope.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=99624&utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=comparisonshopping&gclid=CKDNofqqm7ACFdEDQAod2UAdaQ

Own Canon digitally stabilized, Leupold Wind River, some smaller others and then bought a pair of ...

Steiner Safari's. Use them everywhere. they are the "right " size to take and a good size to use. Clarity rivals my expensive ones and they are priced where you want to be.

Get her a Leupold Yosemite in 6x32. They are lightweight, good glass and under $100. I have a pair and they work great for just exactly what you described as the desired use. They are also available in 8x32 but the 6's image seemed a little sharper to me.

The reviews on them are great, they come with a lifetime warranty and can be found at Cabela's and most other sporting goods stores. I have never had anyone take a look through them that was not completely awed by how well they perform for the price. Read some reviews on them and you will see what I am talking about.

Thanks for the link. i think i will order these for her. Thanks all!! Lee

Not to offend, but all serious in depth reviews I've read on celestron optics has been fairly negative or mediocre grades at best on clarity, contrast, and color abberation. Never tried them but did a lot of research on them when looking for a spotting scope and happened to read a lot on their binos in the process.
Ended up going with the Leupold Kenai 80mm HD spotter after weighing price to value ratios for my needs and am very happy.

Skeet, Check out NIkon's new for 2012 PROSTAFF 7 Bino's. I have seen the in 10x42 for under $150 on Amazon. Good clear glass with Nikon's Warranty.
