Need info on electronic powder measures

I currently use a 'lever' type powder measuring scale and measure each load. I would like any input on the electronic powder measuring scales. The prices on these vary and do you need to get the expensive ones to get consistent measurements or will the $100 ones be accurate too ?

I like my RCBS Chargemaster Combo. I did ground it to the large metal frame of my reloading bench, however. I noticed that during a long reloading session, it would register a tenth or two grain difference in the weight of the pan when I removed it. Didn't seem to affect the weight of the charge as I checked in on a beam scale every tenth load, but it made me nervous. Grounding the unit stopped that entirely. The other alternative is to wipe it down with a drier sheet every so often. Incidentally, I use this unit to weigh every charge for every round I load. It is pretty quick, but sometimes with big stick powders it will drop more than you want. I've got pretty good at shaking some back in the hopper, then tapping the spout to get just the right few grains back in the pan.

RCBS chargemaster it what I use. Most of the time two of then. I have had them all. RCBS is far the best.I loaded over 20,000 rounds last year. Good Shooting Larry

I stopped using a lever/scale and went to a Chargemaster 1500 with plastic spoon and sour-cream container. I can upgrade to full-auto dispensing later (pending gov't approval I'm sure...), but I can meter fast and trickle with out the added cost. The Chargemaster works great +/-0.1gr but I calibrate it early and often, as well as work to the weight in one direction (such as trickling from 44.5 to get to a 44.6 reading). If you just shoot for a single reading it can introduce the full weight of the accuracy, but working in one direction will leave you far more accurate within that calibrated session. The digital scale is also susceptible to drafts, and can take 5+seconds to finalize on a weight when teetering on the edge of a reading (example 44.459gr might be rounded from 44.4gr to 44.5gr after 5 seconds).

How do you ground a plastic dispenser?

Start by grounding the exposed metal "frame". Then merely spray with anti-static spray (from electronics store is best) or wipe every accessible plastic surface with a dryer sheet.

I did this many months ago and the scale hasn't drifted since. Haven't turned it off either.

A "Static Ground" doesn't need to have the same electrical conductivity as an "electrical ground". Just a path for the static to bleed off.

If you are in a high static environment (dry heated air, synthetic flooring, carpet, etc) it also helps if you have a "ground point" you can touch to bleed static from your body. Anti-static wrist straps are great for working in these environments as they use a small resistor to keep you from the "get your @$$ kicked" spark.

I have used a Lyman DPS II for 4 years to load high power rounds with good results and satisfaction. I was very disapointed with a Hornady system, it was fast, easy to empty and has auto refill but accuracy is totally unreliable. I now use it to throw partial charges and trickle to final charge on a RCBS 505 beam scale and use a small hand magnifing lense to get as accurate a beam allinment as possable for my long range loading. I would recomend a Lyman but not the Hornady.
