Need info on CCI 250 mag primers

Hey guys, I have a question, I was shooting win large rifle primers in the past and had a really nice load. Switched to the cci 250 mag primers and have not been able to keep the loads consistent. I have been told that the mag primers are known not to be consistent. I am shooting Rem. brass,243 win) with Hornandy 105 AMAX and ramshot hunter powder, 1 9 1/4 twist). I was planning to try the CCI's 200 primers next week to see what difference it makes. Any info that you might give me will be greatly appr. Also, what is the life of a factory savage rifle barrel in 243 win. I think I might be close to 1000 rounds thru my rifle.

With those 250 primers you may not be able to duplicate your load. Primers can make a difference from time to time.

Magnum primers have given slightly higher velocities across my chronograph, but I also see slightly larger group sizes, and a wider spread between the highest and lowest velocity. I use standard large rifle primers only. Regarding barrel life for the .243: I burned out a Douglas chrome moly at 1400 documented rds., and a Shilen stainless at 1300: and that was with a milder load: 37 grs. IMR 3031 w/ Sierra 75 gr. #1510. Never loaded w/ heavy bullets & slow burning powders. All reasons why the 6ppc and 6BR are my favorites now.

That is what I have noticed, the mag primers have not been consistent. The bad thing is purchased so many of them it is hard for me just to stop using them.

Only accuracy I have ever been able to obtain with the CCI 250 Mag. primers was under a lot of powder. Such as 7mm Rem. Mag. 300 Rem Ultra Mag. and the likes. Bill
