Need Info on 105 AMAX use for PD's

Well alright then-
this year's PDog Safari left me with
such great results from my three go to
Rifles and all their loads except one=
The Starke 75gr 6mm Red prairie Huge Hollow
Pt bullets in my 6BR were just too Ballastically challenged
,Poor BC) to navigate the Colorado wind gusts=
therefore yesterday I worked up a Killer Load in my
Long Range 6BR 8 twist Lilja using 105 AMAX's=
Killer accuracy and great BC=
It passed my Egg Explosion test against Backer Board=
just hoping someone has Real Word experience with
105 gr AMAX on PD's=
Velocity should be about 2,900 fps=
thanks in Advance

Wished I could help you on the post mortum with the 105's.

I killed, hit) several at just under 1k this year, but they were across a big creek/small river, so I couldn't do an autopsy.

At 2900, it seems to not really hit them as much as falling out of the sky on 'em.:D

I`ve walked across the praire and checked it out a few times. They dont expand as much as a 87vmax but WAY more than any other match bullet Ive used. I really think they`re the best LR 6mm choice for pd`s if they shoot good in your gun.

I used the 105 A-Max this year on my trip to P-Dog Land. The effect was devastating on them,it was awesome  )! Shot from 100 out to a 1000yards with the same results. I recommend it!

This is good info to keep in mind. I was thinking of trying the 87 gr. VMax in my 6 BR,retired competition rifle) 8' twist but now you all have me thinking about the 105 AMax for S.W. Virginia groundhogs . I've never tried the Starke RP 6mm bullets but found the 22 cal. to have such poor BC that I didn't have enough clicks to get the scope on very far out but they shot like a match bullet at 100 yds .

Been using em in m 6AI since they came out, sure are a great bullet for the price and yes, far more splat factor than other match bullets. They dont explode too much on a PD, but man do they ever tear up a jackrabbit....

Got a 6BR in process, replacing the 6AI, looking forwards to them Amaxes....

The AMax may expand a bit better then the other bullets in the 100grain+ range but franking they can't be expected to violently expand in the first inch or two of a Prairie dog. I've not found any of the heavies that work unless by exception. I like splat factor and have returned to shooting light, thin jacketed, fast bullets. ,and I'm shooting the wind better because of the trigger time)

I've shot just about every 6mm VLD bullet out there on prairie dogs. The Amax is the best choice of the heavy VLD's. It won't toss them in the air like a faster lighter bullet but it does put the smack down on them. They really are the only choice for 600yd+ shooting. The lighter bullets just get blown around on the prairie.

got this load from a gent who had just won a state championship at 600 yds; 105 AMax w/ 31.5 gr RL-15. should be good for 2900+ fps. loaded but yet to shoot. thinking/hoping good things. oh yeah, 6mm BR.

I shoot the 105 A-Max in my 6x284. They are the perfect example of give and take. Sure they don't explode like a 55 grain Ballistic Tip, but they do everything better than a B-Tip from 500 yards out. The 87-grain V-Max is good out to 1,000, but it's getting tired real fast at that point.

Thanks guys for the input on 105 AMAx's.. I have a lot of real world experience withe the 87 grain VMax's.. They are my go to load on PD's out of a special 12 twist 6 Dasher built on a Nesika J in Shehane ST-1000 stock etc.. The thrill factor
,Red Mist- Launches and general body pars flying) is unbeatable.. 87 VMax accuracy is 1/3 MOA to distance, and
I killed many in the 850+yd range with it this Spring in CO.
Conditions were near ideal on the last evening of shooting
and I scored 2- 1.000yd kills and another 5 kills at 850+ yds
in a very short time with the 87 VMax load and shot count period to end a perfect Varmint Safari.. My new load with the 105AMax will fill a void in my regiment for 300-1,000 yds nicely.. I will use the 108 Berger match bullet at 1,000yds + next year.. Hope this helps somone considering 87 VMax's. 6 Dasher velocity is awesome=
great Shoting to ya

PS- my shooting Partner and I had eleven - 1,000yd + confirmed kills in 6 days of shooting and we only went long early morning and late afternoon when winds died somewhat and shot very few rounds=@ 1,000+yds. His longest 1,397yds and mine was 1175yds.

Shot lots of groundhogs here in western PA with the 105gr. A-Max's shot out of my 243 Ackley Imp. at 3300 fps with great results. Have not had the chance to try them on p dogs. I have pictures of groundhogs that I shot with the 105gr. A-Max's at www.pbase.com/m16800/toys

Good Shooting,
Matt

They work great on groundhogs at around 300yds but thats about as far as I've had a shot at this year. Also this was in my 6br at about the same speed.
