Need help with reamer specs

i am guilty of being a tight a$$ and was pondering a new bench gun. i was really wanting a 30br but with the price of brass and the availability i started looking elsewhere. i also have a full length 308 tactical rifle in the works. anyway, i thought i might just buy a match 308 reamer and run it in .250 short to create a 30x47. the specs will be a .340 neck and .050 freebore. i intend to shoot 155's in the 308 chamber and never heavier than 168's. i wanted it to shoot factory match ammo in a pinch hence the .340 neck. will i be able to reach the lands with the 125gr match bullets on the longer jackets with the .050 freebore in the 30x47 chamber? how will the 30x47 shoot with a 36x scope? any good loads to share? i have already modified several dies for case forming and loading and have 50 pieces of brass just about done. i am set on the 30x47 but really would like some opinions on reamer specs to suite both of these projects. thanks for everyones time in advance.

I shot a '30 Doggie' for many years. It is a 308 that has the shoulder set back .200'. No change in angle. I used 14 and 15 twist barrels with bullets from 125 to 150. H322 and H4895. Making the brass required form dies. PITA but it shot well.

thanks doc,

that is exactly what i am doing but .250 short. will the .050 freebore on the reamer allow me to touch the lands with the longer jacket 125 match bullets?

JMHO, but you're being penny-wise and pound-foolish.

Match reamers are not cheap. For the difference in price between it and a standard 30 BR reamer you could have bought all the BR brass that you need. The 30x47,the 308 run in .250' short is not a 30x47 BTW) made from Remchester brass is not known for it's extreme accuracy and you'll probably end up buying premium brass to make your cases from. You'll probably spend additional $$ for wildcat dies and in the end you'll have a rifle that won't have the re-sale value of one chambered for 30BR.

Again, JMHO.

Chuck, I make my 110 gr. 7 ogive bullets on .925 jackets and they seat out to the lands in my 30BR chamber. It has .050' FB. I'm sure the 125 gr bullets on 1.00' or 1.080' jackets will have no trouble reaching the lands.

doc,

that is exactly what i need to know. thank you very much. cheechako, i value your opinion, but i have already made all of the form dies from a set of old 243 dies that have been in the way and a cheap set of 308 dies. the brass issue is this. i will seek out lapua brass for the short 308. it seems to be more available than the 6br brass and, it is $25 per hundred cheaper. i can prep some winchester or federal match brass in a pinch and keep plugging away. i have already formed and match prepped 50 pieces of brass and it looks great. resale value is not an issue. if i dont like the way it shoots, i will either finish the chamber in 308 or set it back and re-chamber to 30br. the project made sense to me at the time of its inception anyway.
