Need help with Oehler chronograph diffuser repair

I have an Oehler 33 Chronograph and I hit one of the supports that holds the diffuser. This appears to be nothing more than a piece of 2" wide Venetian blind. No one seems to have this material. Anyone here know where I can find these blinds? I checked blind parts shops with no luck. Oehler wants $34 for one diffuser.

OR, does anyone have an idea for an alternative diffuser support?

Thanks

Use vertical blind material . It's wider but cut ends to match or make a ope piece with the wider material and just cus cuts to bend in the shape .
On second thought, buy the correct one !

i used some old venetian blind for mine and cut it as needed. Any piece of sheet metal that will fit in the diffuser and you can cut to fit will work. Might need to spray paint it. Better than that-get a LabRadar:)

FWIW the spare parts from Oehler are not expensive and they sell them by the piece. You are not the first to shoot the supports.

I still have my 40 YO Oehler 33. I don't use the sun screen and it doesn't seem to matter. The sun comes in from a low angle under the screens. It's seldom overhead. Four years ago I got bad readings with the sun shield and about 2-3 in the after noon when the sun was at it's highest. I wasn't aligned with a laser then. No problems the last two years. When I set up I tape a piece of paper to the screen support arms and put a laser pointer pen on the barrel to make sure I am centered above the sensor and about three inches high. Walmart has a niece laser pen in the electronics section for $7. It can easily be seen hundreds of feet at night. Sometimes it's hard to see on white paper in bright sun. Need to try black paper or Al foil.

I Also have a 33. Never used the defusers in Wisconsin. Moved to Arizona and the sun is constantly tripping the screens. Tried to make defusers out of translucent plastic, but does not seem to work. Oehler said I could purchase the sky screens III and they would work on my 33. Anyone else try to retro fit defusers?

About 3 years ago I shot the black plastic piece that contains the sensors and holds the diffuser arms. Oehler sold me 2 new units with cables for a little over $100. They are from the model 35. No change in 40 years. They work with old electronics box. Looks like the 35 uses the same electronic sensor as the new one. Just more features in the electronic box. I don't remember but I don't think I got new sun screens. Believe I'm using the old ones. Should be easy to make the arms out of some common material.

You can by sheets of plastic at most ARTS & CRAFTS stores.

Yep,works fine !

Yes, no one use venetian blinds anymore. The trick is to look for old ones at the Salvation Army store.

If you are still looking for the support replacements and have one that has not been shot that you can send to me, I am sure I can print those with the 3D printer for little money.
