I realize this is an 11 month old thread, but the thing that jumped out at me was this "Chamber bore finish is mirror smooth". I always thought the chamber wall was not supposed to be that slick?

Correct. I use 320 grit as a light finish polish, leaving a distinct crosshatch pattern. Yes, too smooth is a bad thing, not a good one.

Could be headspace too. New Grendel brass is pretty short. That gives it a running start at the bolt face, especially with a slick chamber, though.

I fixed the issue by replacing the JP round head ejector with one that is flat on the top.

Apparently the large radius on the JP ejector creates extra space for the brass to flow into when compressed flush with the bolt face, during extraction/ejection.

That little space around the ejector caught brass and made quite a mess of things.
