need help with 6.5x47 build

:)hi guys getting ready to order my barrel but need to know what freebore I will need. I would like 140 hybreds and 139 scenars to be in the magic spot and possibly shoot the 130 bergers and 123 scenars. so im asking the gun gurus here to let me know what I should go with. thanks a bunch

The .123 FB reamer that Kiff sells works really well with the 140hyb,123scenars, and 130 Berger VLD's. If you want to shoot the 139scenars and want the bearing/boat tail junction above the shoudler/neck junction you will need to go with .160-.170FB.

You can shoot all the bullets you mentioned in the .160+ FB chamber, however, all but 142 SMK's and 139scenars will be seated a little further out than you may prefer.

On another note, the .123FB is also going to work really well with the 136 scenarL's once they are available.

I have three different reamers and barrels chambered with all three- .090(JGS),.123(PTG), and .164(JGS)

If I can do anything to help feel free to contact me anytime.

Regards
Scott

:) scott thankyou very much for your help. So if I go .160 fb am I to understand this right that the 139's and the 142's will be at the neck and shoulder junction and all the others would be further up the neck? If so do you have any coal numbers for these bullets with the .160fb? Again thanks

Pretty much, yes that is correct. Grizzly sells a PTG 6.5x47 reamers with .167FB (no turn). Obviously what Eric mentioned works very well also(as his shooting reflects this). You can generally get just about any bullet to shoot with this length freebore, it just depends how much of the bullet you prefer to have in the neck.

I am down in Houston for the NRA convention right now, But when I get back I would be more than happy to get any oal measurements that you would like.

I f a person didn't know what their FB was how would you measure it or is that possible? and I have often wondered this also but never question it how do they come up with a round like a 30BR with No free bore, I had one of the top 30BR guys in here tell me about it on the phone but he is so above my head I just didn't comprehend what he was saying.

Your best bet is submit a dummy round with the longest bullet you plan to use and have a reamer made specifically for it . Dave over at Pacific Tool and Guage does an excellent job of it . You have to measure right to the driving band to get the freebore right . It's just like finding the right load , you have to try different lengths before you can say it's right for your rifle , not cheap . You can try what's worked for most for starters , there are some excellent suggestions here , but it will always be a trial and error game for what works best in your rifle . You want to be as close to perfect as possible but leave a little guessing room so you don't have to blame that guy behind the rifle ;D !
