Need help raising the comb on my stock...

Currently, I don't get a cheek weld on my stocks, it's more like a chin weld.....

I need something to raise the comb without widening the comb. I recently tried one of those u-shaped kydex jobs that bolt onto the stock. That unit raises the comb quite nicely but it also widens the comb so that I have to turn my head sideways to get my shooting eye behind the scope. I have tried others but I won't bore you with the details.

I seem to recall seeing a two-piece unit that screwed onto the top of the comb. First piece screwed on the top of the comb and then the second piece snapped onto the top of the first piece to cover up the screw holes. Any one know where to find that unit or something else like it?

Thanks for the help!

Most of the add on adjustable comb assemblies I'm familiar with add to the width of the comb when installed. This company:

makes an elasticized piece that increases comb height and, it appears to me, does it without adding to the width of the stock.

I have used Blackhawk stock packs and yes they widen it but my eye ends up right inline with the scope. It has 3 removable foam inserts and is very comfortable and is held by 3 straps. I put one on a Remington vs and it made shooting the .308 like nothing. You don't feel hardly any push while hunting whoff and if you have to remove the bolt, just loosen the straps and pull the bolt.

For the best of all worlds

Install a Warner Tool Co. Thumbwheel Adjustable Cheek Piece Hardware.

The one you remember is the Accu-riser from Leatherman Traditional etc. It attaches with two screws and has a second piece that snaps on top that covers the screws.

Howdy !

FWIW :
For a near-term expedient, you could always get a piece(s ) of correctly-sized plumbing insulation foam, cut a slit in it; and position it over the top of your rifle's comb. You could check out the provided height advantage ( if any ) that way.

Well, a strap on stock pack like the TacOps with a little padding will work with minimal side padding.

If you want something with less, then how's your woodworking skills?

A while back, I saw a setup a fellow had done himself. He took a piece of balsa wood and whittled on it and fiddled with it till he had what he wanted. He then took a piece of hardwood and copied that.

Basically, it was as wide as the stock. Carved out underneath to fit over the top and rounded enough on top for his cheek (plus a stick on pad). He epoxied two bolts into the underside that dropped into corresponding holes in the stock. That let it be removed for cleaning.

Thanks for the help!

As it turns out, I found an old piece of scrap pine in my shop that I believe I was cutting up for kindling. Anyway, part of it looked to be just the right size for a cheekrest so I got out the wood rasps and gouges and went to work. Came out pretty good! I was even able to induce a bit of cast-off! Looks like he!! but I'll take function over fashion any day! I think I'm going to mix up some bedding compound and bed the rest to the top of the stock. I have it screwed to the top of the stock right now with deck screws. (Cheek rest by Ace Hdwe...) Plan is to install threaded inserts in the stock after I get the rest polished up a bit and then attach the rest with a proper machine screw.

garyfisher....thanks for the heads-up on the accu-riser.....that is the one I was looking for. I have another rifle that needs some cheek height so I think I'll try the accu-riser on that one.

Again, thanks all for the help!
