need help from PO Ackley Handbook

After several months of research online I have just about talked myself into a second barrel for my Stevens 44 1/2 single shot rifle. This action was pretty much designed around the 32-40 round but research shows a few were made in 30-40 Krag. I have decided that I would use the 303 Savge for a parent case and move the shoulder forward and increase the shoulder diameter creating a 303 Improved. This case has a base diameter smaller than the 30-40 and larger than the 30-30 so it is a happy medium which will result in a 30-30 AI on steroids. Could somebody please look in AckLey Handbooks to see if there are case dimensions given. My Quickload shows a case capacity of 50 grains. Now the first thing everyone will say is why? 303 brass is available, I will order a custom sizing die no matter what wildcat I choose, and will use my Vickerman die for seating. My first step is going to buy some brass and seat a bullet to measure what my neck diameter will be and to measure what my throat should be. Any other steps before I contact PTG for a reamer? Thanks. Get rid of the rifle and buy a modern gun with a modern cartridge.

Sorry about that. I wish the moderator would delete old stuff. I try to check the dates but I screw up sometimes.

We all do I think. I don’t want to see them deleted as there’s great info but would be nice to lock them from further comments after a certain amount of time.
