Need good hog hunting loads for 6.5 Grendel AR

I have a buddy who has gone whole hog ( Pun intended) into hog hunting in Tennesee. He started out hunting them over bait and is now going hunting with dogs. He has put together a AR in 6.5Grendel and wanting some good tried on hogs loads. He is hunting some ferals, and some Russian/Russian mixed. All help appreciated.

I run 120 grain barnes TTSX with 25.0 grains H322 (slightly compressed load), CCI450 primers, OAL as measured with Hornady Lock N Load gauge 1.665". Work up. This load provided a wide accuracy node that began at 24.3 grains. Awesome on the hogs. That bullet will put them down.

Carpe Sus on YouTube he is also on the 6.5Grendel board a fair bit.
If anyone has killed more hogs with a 6.5 Grendel than he has, I have yet to hear of them. He has some good info on bullet performance on this cartridge.

A bullet that really surprised me on performance is the Speer TNT. I can’t help but think it would t make a darn good white tail bullet for the 6.5 Grendel with its reduced speed.
I know years back when the big names quit making a single shot pistol bullet, a lot of us went to same caliber rifle varmint bullet with no issues.

I suspect the TNT 6.5 bullet was designed with the thoughts of 6.5x55 maybe 260, just was not that many slower small case factory cartridges around as we have a lot of “designer” cartridges today.

My plan for the Grendel was to shoot the Nosler 100 gr Ballistic Tip, but can’t find any, and my supply is low. So then I went with the 95 gr Hornady V-Max and it worked pretty good at the lower velocity of the Grendel if I put it in the ear. Then I decided to try the 123 gr SST. Might not be the best bullet, and I haven’t shot a truck load of hogs, but even the big ones didn’t go far. So, it’s a pretty good bullet, and it’s available. But someday I will get more 100 gr Ballistic Tips. 2600 fps vs 2400 with the 123 gr SST. It’ll give me a bit more range.

I use Hornady 123 SST and killed every one I’ve shot at - immediately.

+1 on this bullet. If you can find them they're worth a try for sure.

I've shot a few hogs, and about half a dozen deer with this bullet from a 6.5-06. Certainly no complaints on the bullet accuracy wise and performance. WD

I've had great success with the 123gr SST, the 120gr Barnes TAC-X (TSX), 100gr Barnes TTSX out of the Grendel. I'd say for cost vs. performance, you'd be hard pressed to beat the SST.

I've had decent success with the 120gr Nosler BT...it works great on the hogs under 150lbs...but the big ones it doesn't quite penetrate deep enough on.

I had horrible luck with the 110gr Controlled Chaos (petals don't go deep enough and you basically are just a FMJ after a few inches of penetration. I also had bad luck with the 120gr Speer Gold Dot, which I suspect would work great if I got them up a bit faster. The 64gr Gold Dot out of my .223 will make you a believer out of that small cartridge.

I've got a few other videos on bullets, but here's a second Grendel vs SPC video that I did (I own and use both) where it has some video evidence of how some of the bullets did without you having to sit through 50 videos of me rambling like an idiot. You can cut out the entire 2nd half of this video once the shooting stops.

Thanks guys, we are using the 120 sierra sps and the 123SST's, working them up and will get back to you, thanks all.
