Need explanation on scoring in f class matches.

I never have shot a F class match.
Can some one post some information on how scoring works ?
Let’s say a 600 yard match for example.
1...how big is target ? Size of the X , size of 10 ring ,size of 9 ring ?
2 How many shots for a score ?
3... so if some one reports a 10-150 and a 7-150 what does that mean ? Any other scoring info would be a great help to us new shooters. Thanks. MD

For a typical 600 Yard f-class match, the target’s scoring rings are minute of angle. X ring- 1/2 min/3”, 10 ring- 1 min/6”, 9 ring- 2 min/12” etc.. Standard course of fire can vary. A common day might be 3 matches, all at 600 yards. A long range Palma day might be 15 shots at 800,900, and 1000, and then maybe another 20 at 1000. Each match consists of 2 sighters and then 20 shots for record in 22 minutes. Often, there will be unlimited fowler’s or sighters on the first match of the day, and then just 2 sighters for the rest of the matches. Scoring is the number of points, followed by number of shots in the x ring. So, for example, A score of 200-19 means that 19 shots were in the x-ring, and 1 shot was in the 10 ring. 199-19 means that 19 shots were in the x ring, one was in the 9 ring, and the shooter is probably growling/weeping somewhere close.

If you have the chance to watch some one score a shooter, or observe in the pits, it will make sense pretty quickly.

so in this example... 200-19 like you said 19 shots in x ring = 190 plus 1 shot in 10 ring which means 200 points ? What would it mean if 20 shots in the x ring ?
Not sure what score a x ring shot is worth in points. ? Sorry for my confusion. Thanks. Marty

Ok. Thanks for your help. I am going to do some studying on the F match rule book etc. thanks for everyone’s help. I learned a lot tonight. MD

An X is worth 10 points and used for tie breakers
A 10 is worth 10 points
A 9 is worth 9 points
An 8 is worth 8 points
A 7 is worth 7 points

So one person has a 195-4x and the other person has a 195-3x the one with the higer X count wins. However if one has a 194-12x and the other guy has a 195-1x the 195 wins

Here's a score card that isnt all 10s from my daughter shooting 1k a few years back to give you an idea of how its scored. Three relays of 20 rounds each for score here.0707181420~2.jpg

what actually does that mean for each number score of 9 on target one?
Typically the scorer will call out the score for that shot and how many record shots have been sent by his shooter. Thus, my first record shot being a nine. This only occurs when I am nailing 10's and x's during the sighter period and I know I have it figured out.:oops::oops:

Yes. So for the picture of the scorecard on match 1, you would have heard: 7, one on, 8 two on, 10, 3 on. Helps keep shooter and scorer on same page. Some guys shoot really fast, and it’s tough to keep up. Better to find out early than wait to the end, and shooter is done, but you only have 19 shots recorded.

Another hint on scoring. Take the example above (line 1)
Instead of adding all the shot values together to a score start subtracting.
Each line of 10 shots is worth 100 points
First shot for record is a 7 then 8, 10, 8, 9, 10, 10, 7, 9, 7
10-7=3, 10-8=2, 10, 10-8=2 etc add these up and subtract from 100

Must be some sort of new math on that first line to get an 86.

A 190-19 hurts SO much more, though. Especially when the target you cross-fired onto comes up with an X.

Oh yeah, that's one other thing: if the shooter crossfires (meaning they park a round onto a target that isn't theirs), that's scored a Miss (0 points) no matter how perfectly centered in that target's X ring it may be.

thank you i've heard that called out at matches but never ACTUALLY had it explained yeah cross fire turn the magnification down so you can see the target number board...

You also need to learn the common F-class vernacular. My scorers seem to be fond of saying " NINE, ONE ON!"
My scorers have a bad habit of saying “SEVEN!” or “EIGHT!” Unpredictably.
Usually when it’s inconsistent wind.
