Need coyote load 243 win 1-12

Hello 6br members! I just had my kimber Montana returned from a 1-12 twist douglas rebarrel job.
I am looking for a coyote load. I have just finished fire forming while doing an OCW testing.
Nothing outstanding as of yet.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Absolutely +1. Right on the money with that one GSPV.

The 70gr Nosler Ballistic tip is also a good bullet. If Hornady was still making them, I'd also recommend the 75gr Vmax. The powders that GSPV recommended are good, and don't count out R-15, especially with if you try the 70gr or lighter bullets with that 12 twist. WD

Hi bc...listen to ole' WD..he knows how to make a .243 shoot,,,I use Rx-15 for 90gr and smaller(really like 75 sierra HP--85 sierra HPBT) bullets in a .243 also!!!....mike likes max loads and touching the rifleing with a square mark,,,,(4895 is good also)..Roger

you may also want to consider the sierra 75 gr hp and the sierra 80 grain btsp

the sierra 85 grain hpbt is also a fine bullet. a little tougher than the other two I mentioned

find a load with them that your rifle likes and they will put the hammer down on coyotes

My go to coyote rifle was Tikka T3 Lite in .243. I chopped the barrel down to 16 1/2" and used Hornady 75gr hollow points over RL-15. This load and rifle combo put the HAMMER down on the song dogs out to 300 yards.

The only down side is it would make a mess out of me. So if your worried about fur damage..this is not the load for you.

55g CT /58g & 65g vmax will take em in your .243 out to 700 yards with no issues...does in my stock Savage 243.
My pal shoots the 58g zmax in his 1/12" .243 Ruger MkII w/a benchmark 26" bbl. out to 800 yards with no problems at all.

I've killed several with it. I wouldn't hesitate to use it any time. I like the Nosler 95 Partition, too. I'd like to try a Barnes TTSX.

On a double lung shot or a low neck, there is no more devastating bullet on the planet than the HPBT. It is like Thor's Hammer.

Deadly, it will probably be rebarreling my T-3 to 260 Remington. You might have seen the thread where my son shot 243 loads on his custom 260? No harm done, but no sense in not putting systemic prevention.

Besides, that Berger 130 is about as devastating as the Sierra HPBT.

I had some success yesterday in the light rain and no wind. 2 loads grouped under MOA, and 2 more grouped under a half. I guess fireforming made a difference. Might of been the nut behind the bolt too!
80 and 87 bergers grouped 3/4''-7/8''. 80 barnes TTSX and 55 bal tips went 3/8'' and 1/4''.
I was sweating bullets there for awhile on my initial OCW testing. But now I can relax a little. Still have to confirm at longer distances tho. Thank you for all of the advice!

The bullet that really surprised me in a slow twist Savage was the Speer 70gr TNT. I thought it was just a cheap hollow point, but they shot better than the Sierra Match King 70gr bullets in my rifles. Wish I had bought more when I found them cheap, they aren't nearly as cheap now, but they still shoot real good. The other bullet that works great in my 1-12 is the 75gr VMAX. It should also be lights out for any coyote. Richard Franklin's favorite bullet for G-hogs was the 75gr Vmax. Both of the above mentioned bullets probably won't make an exit hole and won't ricochet into the next county if you miss. I can't say the same for the 85gr HPBT bullets mentioned in previous posts.

If you're looking for a bullet just for coyotes and varmints the Sierra 80 Blitz is a really good one

BIG + for the 85gr sierra. They are old and very proven. Shooting distance? 70+gr usually overkill unless beyond 500yd. I use 55gr SPT Sierra in my 223 with ZERO issues, but shooting within 500 and most often withing 350.

I have extensive experience with the Sierra 85 grain HPBT. You will get LARGE exit holes on yotes shot broadside.

With that said, that bullet is the most versatile 6mm hunting bullet on the planet. It's easy to tune and easy to hit with in the field.

Sierra makes Hollow points in 60, 70, 75, 80 and 85gr, and they are all one as good as they other, and they are in the low $20s for a box of 100, you just can't go wrong.
