I have a Colt 9mm Commander that I’d like to convert. I checked all the vendors that I’m familiar with, but nothing. What did I miss?

As there are three sizes of the 1911 platform, full size 5", Commander size 4", and Officers size 3", you may want to consider the Kimber 3" Compact Conversion unit, as I'm also unaware of any conversions available in the 4" barrel/slide configuration.

Mine is accurate enough when mounted on any of my 3" 1911's for ground squirrels out to around 40 yards, and very effective on jackwabbits out to 50+ yards. Two examples.....

This guy popped up out of his burrow at 21 paces from my bench:

During one of our rat shooting events, this jack blazed right through our camp, then stopped right at 52 yards for that fatal "last look back".

The little 3" conversions are certainly not target quality, but for informal field use, mine sees much use in addition to my full size 5" Target model. They're much more accurate and usable than one would imagine. A plus factor is the 3 incher fits my Milt Sparks VM2 IWB intended for my Kimber Ultra's in 9mm and .45 perfectly....win-win.

One thing to consider if you go this route, is that only HV ammo will reliably cycle the slide and give the accuracy wanted. I use only Mini-Mag HP's and WW Power Point ammo. The varmints here do NOT approve.

My understanding is that a Nelson conversion will fit a Commander frame. It is a 5" barrel though. The recoil spring shroud is extended to fill the (would be) gap to the dust cover on the shorter frame.

I have a Kimber conversion, and a Nelson. As Rick said, the Kimber only likes the "hot stuff". Just my luck, that ammo was really hard to find at that time. A real plus for the Nelson, it will lock the slide back when you run dry, and loves standard velocity ammo.
