Need advice on bushing sizes.....

Just received a new BR rifle set up for 6ppc with a .262 neck. I am new to neck turning and reloading with bushings. What range of bushings should I order when getting my dies?

I was considering Redding S Match....the three die set. Any other recommendations?

.257 and .258. Don't let your loaded round get over .260 in diameter.

Assuming you're turning your necks, you want a 0.257" bushing to allow 0.003" neck clearance and 0.002" neck tension. Neck thickness must be adjusted to permit these tolerances. With a 0.243" bullet, this means a 0.012" neck thickness. If your brass is thinner, then a smaller bushing is needed to maintain this same 0.002" tension or be satisfied with less tension. With thinner brass, neck clearance will increase.

There is nothing wrong with your choice of dies. However, you can have a FL custom sizing die made to match your fired brass. Another choice is to have Forster adjust one of their FL dies to your neck spec.

gdaddy: I also have a .262" neck 6ppc, loaded round neck dia. is .260", so .258" is "primary" bushing, but I also have .257" and .259" for those "odd" neck wall thickness cases. Also in the event you get a bushing that is ident stamped as .258", and the "actual" sized dia. is .257". For that reason, I buy the cheaper plain steel: would rather have the versatility of 3 sizes, compared to 1 size for the cost of the titanium. My turned neck wall thickness, Lapua) is very close to .0085" = .017" total + .243" = .260".

gdaddy, I have a .2575 carbide bushing and my brass measures .008". I just made sure my final cut on the necks was dead on. I can't read the wind for squat but when it is calm it shoots in the ones consistently. maybe one of these days I'll learn how to dope the wind and mirage.good luck and good shooting, treeman p.s. I'd also recomend a wilson bushing die and their seater with a body die from redding for when you need to push the shoulders back a little. or have a fl die made to match your chamber and use it every time. I use the body die to push the shoulders back but it losses a little on accuracy the first time after i push it back but I only push it back every fourth fireing. another point about the body die. if you leave the lock ring loose and just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't move,it makes the casses have less run-out. I guess you could use a lee lock-ring with the rubber "o" ring.

I think your money will be better spent on Harrell threaded shoulder bump and neck die and a Wilson seater. AT .262 neck I have seen every thing from .256 to nothing for the neck bushing. It all will depend on your personal preference and comfort level and what you find your rifle likes.
In NBRSA Bench rest group shooting, most times the case, formed from Lapua 220 Russian) was scrapped before needing full length sizing. The neck thickness is to some extent a value of what you are confident in and what works in the gun. The best barrel I had when I shot group BR was .262 neck and the loaded round with a 66gr. Fowler bullet measured .261 at he pressure ring.
