NEED ADVICE FOR REMINGTON BOLT SHROUD REMOVAL

I disassemble my bolts frequently to clean and check firing pin clearance etc. I recently purchased an xp-100 action and proceeded to disassemble and replace the firing pin spring and shroud and clean the bolt. After taking the bolt apart and driving the shroud retaining pin out, I find the shroud will not move at all. Using a brass drift and a fairly heavy hammer produced no movement. I am at a loss and open to suggestions. This is the first time I have not been able to remove the shroud. I certainly do not want to damage the bolt. Not sure whether to heat the shroud or not. Help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Don't heat the shroud, it's not necessary to remove the cocking piece. There are almost always a burr on the end of the firing pin and the cocking piece is almost always tapered inside which yields a interference fit. Those thing can be a pain, not to mention somewhat dangerous, to get apart. I take the virgin ones apart by lightly gripping the shroud threads in a soft jaw vise and using a tool that I made that fits around the firing pin stop collar. Tap the tool away from the shroud and the cocking piece will come off the pin and the tool retains control of the firing pin when the spring relaxes. Clean up the rear of the firing pin so that it's on and off with fingers so it doesn't lock on again. It's not difficult to do, just think it through and you'll do fine.

Be Extremely CAREFULL! The first one I ever took apart was stuck as you describe. I don't remember exactly what I did, but by tapping the firing pin and holding the shroud, the firing pin flew out like an arrow and stuck in the wall paneling. Wear safety glasses if you don't have the proper tools, definitely enough spring pressure to knock an eye out!

In the interest of avoiding a nasty surprise, I should also add that you most certainly DO NOT want to strike the cocking piece with a punch, mallet or hammer. THEY WILL BREAK.
