need a stock.

Sent my rem 700 SA to pac-nor for rebarreling with a 28" heavy 1/8 twist barrel in 6mm br. my hs preciesion stock that came on it wont fit the new contour im sure, so i need a new BR stock. im looking for a 3" forend and a nice clean look. probably a marbled finish. my question is who sells a stock that i can just drop the barreled action in and glass bed it myself. im pretty handy and im sure that wond be a problem as long is its inleted nicely. any suggestions? price is a factor here also. would like to keep it around 300 or less. thanks!

McMillan,best price from Bruno's)
Richard's Custom Rifles
D&B Supply

These guys all have Rem-700 inletted BR stocks close to $300 dollars. Note that does NOT include pillar bedding or stock finishing. With a McMillan no painting is required, but most people think it's still a good idea to bed them.''FYI, for you Pac-Nor order be SURE you specify what throat length you want. I'd go about .100 Freebore if you want to shoot the 105s. An .080 Freebore works great for both long and short bullets.

Thanks for the ideas. as for the free bore. I didnt know exactly what to get but i told them it was for the 90-105 grain bullets. I"ll call them up to confirm what they put it in as. and yeah im planning to shoot the 105's I shoot a varmint silloette match from 200-500 meters with varing wind.

Bruce Baer, one of the "top recommended smiths" on this site makes great laminated stocks and does rough inletting. Price is hard to beat, all colors, over 50 stock patterns. Check the link on the site for his site with pics of stocks.

Was just in his shop 3 weeks ago and saw a new style that would be great 600 or 1000 yd BR stock. Long McMillan Edge type front for enhanced tracking and lighter weight, Tooley MBR butt with either taper bottom or 1/2" flat. Also can make the butt his signature thumbhole rollerover with flat.

Why don't you just cut out the barrel channel on your HS stock. It can be done and it is one of the best stocks on the market with that aluminum bedding system. I have done two that way after re-barreling and they work great.

yeah, I did think about that option. infact i probably will do that af first. but im not sure how wellit will look for one... and Its not a very good stock to shoot off a rest. although I still havent purchased a rest yet either, does anyone have a recomendation on a rest? I'd like something nice under 350. windage adjustment and build quality are top concerns. I have heard of the rock br 1000 but it looks a little bit sloppy from what i can tell. the bald eagle rest look nice although they are a little on the $ side, although still doable. thanks again!
