Need a review of the Sightron SIIISS10-50x60 LRIRMOA-2

Could someone post a review OF THEIR
Sightron III 10-50x60 Illuminated MOA-2 reticle scope ? Thinking about buying one instead of the Longrange DOT on cross hair reticle. Looking to use it For 1000 target and 1000 yard prairie dog hunting in ND. A lot of shooters here think I would like the MOA-2 reticle better then the dot only. I can only afford to do this once. Don’t see to many of the USED Illuminated reticles for sale here on the forum , might have to pay full price for a new one. Your thoughts for a new long range shooter with this scope. Putting it on a new ER-Shaw, AR10 6.5 creedmoor I ordered.
Thanks. Marty

I'm sure someone else will jump in, but I had a post about the IR and didn't get an answer, so I will help as I can. I have a 10-50 moa-2 non ir and a 8-32 IR MOA-H .the moa-2 reticle is great, not real busy, but helps for hold off'....the ir on the other scope is great...bright enough to use in all but full daylight, yet dims to almost nothing if using night vision......if I had bought the ir scope first, my second would have it also.....the 10-50 is used for paper and steel, the 8-32 for hunting and or steel.....in the future, being on a limited budget, I would save for and get the IR...Rsbhunter

I have it on my F-T/R .308. I love it. Glass is clear and bright. I much prefer the MOA2 reticle over just the dot or cross hairs but much of that is just personal preference. I personally like the lines being marked. I use the IR sometimes but not the majority. The range of adjustment on the IR is great. I like being able to just barely have it on when shooting in cloudy conditions. I would definitely buy the scope again and I feel like it's about the best bang for the buck out there.

Thanks for the reviews and opions. I think I better buy the IR MOA-2 reticle. I wish a good used one would show up on here for sale. They rarerly do it looks like. Marty

Had one , and sold it . I saw a 60 x Sightron that the front section
had fallen off , and replaced it with an 8 - 80 March .

The Sightron is made from 2 pieces , not one billet of material as the
March is . The reticle was ok , bit the March MTR 2 allows for finer
wind holds .

I would certainly hope that a $4000 scope would be an upgrade from a $1300 scope.

The 10-50 SIII I have does appear to be joined at the front bell and main tube junction. This being said, for all the research I did on it before buying, I never heard any complaints or problem with that junction. I am sure it has happened, but I don't think it is a common problem. This is why companies give warranties....stuff happens, and I hear "if my life depends on it, it better not fail" . Well , Kuwait, nor Afghanistan is in my future, so although it might be a major inconvenience, if one of my scopes do fail, I won't lose sleep over it.......AFTER I throw my fit!!!!

I have the 10 by 50 sightron S3 with the Moa H reticle. I also have an 8 by 32 with the Moa 2 reticle. I love both of the reticles for the further distances it is way better than the dot.

I am happy with the glass and I'm happy with repeatability

Thanks for review I am thinking about pulling trigger on the Illuminated dot only , moa-2 in the 10-50 x 60. Just wish turret numbers went higher then number 10. Does that sound right ? What turret number does Your go up too ? I can always get sightron to make a turret with more numbers and hash marks I guess ? I think the 8-33x56 goes to like 40 something on turret don't it ? Marty

The 10-50 has 10 moa per revolution, the 8-32 has 15 moa per revolution....why the turrets are different numerically.....more important is how many moa up you might need...the 8-32 has more moa available, but with most scopes, more power equals less moa adjustment....some of the super high dollar scopes have a greater moa available, but they are usually 34 mm tubes which give more room for a greater adjustment range...it will be a trade of zoom power to elevation range.....which do you need more of ? rsbhunter

Will good question. I ordered a new ER Shaw AR10 in 6.5 creedmoor. 24 inch barrel. Gun test magazine did a great review on then in FEb. I was suppose to get my gun in June one but they fixed me up yesterday. I got gun s/n 68. Cannot wait to shoot. Suppose to shoot moa out box. $1040.00 total. 700.00 cheaper then savages and s&w ar10. Could not keep from ordering. I think it goes sub sonic at 1300 yards. Leaning towards the 10-50x60. At 58. Don’t see as good as I use too. What do you think ? Marty

Yeah, that's why I bought the 10-50 and a 8-32......with a 20 moa rail/mount , and, if needed Burris XTR Signature rings (can get more moa)your good to easily 1200 plus yards...One of the benefits of the 10-50 is that the reticle substensions are 1/2 of what the are at 24 power, when at 48 power....if you need that feature....Sightron are awesome for the money, and will be what i replace my other scopes with....Rsbhunter

Yep. I have wasted a fortune the last 30 years on Nikon scopes and weaver. They just do not cut it. Even Leupold is not that great any more in my opinion. Do you think a Vortex golden 15-60 power used ( most used ones are selling for 1150.00 to $1200.00 here on this site ) with moa-2 is worth the $350.00 more then a used sightron 10-50x60 in moa-2 ? These would be non luminated at these used prices. I like that the Vortex has etched numbers on the glass. But not sure if it is worth $350.00 more used. You do get 10x more power I think. Marty

I haven't used the Vortex GE , I read good things about them.....the SIII with the MOA-2 H has 10, and 20 moa lines numbered.....I would see what reviews the Vortex GE has online, I searched alot on the Sightron and being as I could afford 2 of the Sightron s, that's what I went with......plus the lack of negative reviews....rsbhunter

If you might be interested, I just bought a 10x50/ 60 with the MOA-H, non-illuminated reticle from optics planet, Wednesday for well under 1000. I already own one and am quite satisfied.

If you guy's want a super deal, look at Dvor,( a subsidiary of Optics Planet), and IF they have what you want you will get it cheaper than Optics Planet....Another place for good prices is Tactical Wholesalers....I bought a Sightron SIII from each of these places cheaper than I could find it anywhere( and that is with the $9.95 shipping).Anyway, just a heads up if someone is looking...Rsbhunter
