Need a Rem 870 barrel

So I SBSd an Rem 870 barrel.

Now I'm having trouble finding a 'smith who can thread the inside of the barrel for chokes. I've got one guy who would try but it might ruin the barrel.

So I'm thinking about getting another barrel ... I'm looking for something of the same vintage but I'm wondering if any Remington 870 Barrel will fit.

Any collective wisdom for me ?

Remington did change the barrel for the 870 at some point. The difference being the older barrels use a ball detent under the magazine cap to retain the barrel, the newer ones cheaped up and use a serrated plastic piece that fits in the end of the magazine tube. The switch happened about the same time they also switched to plastic trigger housings.

I have threaded many shotgun barrels for chokes, although I don’t do them anymore.
The outside diameter of the barrel must be .820 or larger.

If you’re trying to get it in rem choke pattern that’s most likely the problem
Most shotgun barrels are not a straight tube, they’re flared on the end to get the OD needed
Get it done in the tru choke pattern , needs less od, tubes are not hard to find

It's a simple and easy job for any smith with a lathe and the right tooling. Problem is, it's a dieing job because most everything now comes with screw in tubes already. 4-d has the tooling for rent if ya have a lathe. I've done a ton of them. Easy job! Briley is great, they do good work...but are way overpriced and take a long while to get back. Ya don't need a specialist for this, other than whoever does it needs the correct tooling. If the plan is to cut it short, it shouldn't be a problem. The only problem is if the bbl is thick enough to accept common tubes, like Rem-Choke. In cases where the bbl is too thin for most tube options, that's where Briley comes into consideration, as they have their own thin wall square thread tube design that's the thinnest that I'm aware of. If ya use Briley, they'll do good work...just get your wallet open for it. Other than that, I have nothing bad to say about them. I'd go with Rem-Choke IF ya can. There are thinner designs too without going to Briley that will USUALLY work for a lot less $$$ Tru-Choke and Tru-Choke Thin Wall are both great and way cheaper as well as more available. If ya go Briley, they are the only option for tubes...fwiw.
It's just a special piloted reamer and piloted tap for whatever style will work with your bbl thickness. Otherwise, nuttin to it.
