If you plan to fly with your rifle the 1770 is too big. 36#’s on its own and is quite wieldy to move around. I would recommend going with a smaller case such as this one.

only 19#’s, and if you disassemble the stock from the action, it fits just fine.

Only reason I went with the 1770 was because I wanted to carry 2 TR rifles (assembled) in a single case.

I drive everywhere, and it's really, really, awkward to share an elevator ride at the local Hilton with a bunch of soccer moms when you're holding a couple of rifles.

I would recommend the Kaizen foam as an upgrade as it lets you peal each 1/8" layer at a time. And an exacto knife, and their deep tipped pen, and you are probably around $300 per case.

Hah! It'd be my luck that guy asking was a world renowned bassoon player.

I was just going to put a bunch of large labels/tags on it that indicate it's surveying equipment. Figured that might be enough to throw off the average hotel employee/guest as to it's true contents. Those guys are everywhere down here, and in hotels constantly.

Plano field locker will carry 2 F-TR rifles w/o scopes, but you’re paying overweight charges. Been doing it for yrs now every time I fly.
