Need a muzzle break... or do I?

I've got my 700 action at Kreiger right now getting new barrel and action trued. Want to go prairie dog shooting with it next year, and was wondering if I need to get a muzzle break in order to see my hits? gun should weigh about 13 pounds when scoped and stocked.

Should I get a muzzle break that is tuned out the top,so not to push dirt all over everywhere)? or one that is 360 degrees? or none at all?

That seems heavy enough to not be bad recoil wise, but a break is nice when you want to watch it all happen in the scope. I have them on about every rifle I own, and prefer the Harrells that have holes 360 degrees, I don't shoot down in the dirt so thats not a concern.. I also like the idea of even dispersal with the 360's over the sides and top cut.

Absolutely use a brake if you want to see hits. Especially something like a .260. They make shooting so much more enjoyable you'll want them on any varmint gun that's used off a rest or bags, even heavy barrel 223's. Get a brake with holes that go all the way around. Don't worry about stirring up dust, belly shooting is an uncomfortable and really unsatisfactory way of blasting prairie dogs anyway.

Wear Double ear protection your ears will thank you for it. Tell your shooting Buddies also. BRAKES are LOUD but they work

Yes, get a brake on your rifle. I would suggest the Vais Muzzle brake. I am having one put on my 17lb 6BR. I love to watch the bullet destroy the varmints. It makes a long day of varmint hunting very enjoyable.

I also agree with CJ6 use double ear protection and may I add take along a big bottle of aspirin. You will need it from all the concussion sent back your way from a day of shooting. If you want splat factor stay with 100 gr and lighter bullets in your 260. I shoot groundhogs with a 6.5X55 and the 100 gr Sierra HP will almost cut a groundhog in half so I would say it would vaporize a PD unless the range go too far.
