Need a little help

hello all
I have built a 338 rum on a Remington 700 using a 416r stainless barrel

I have been beating my self up trying to figure out the strength of my barrel
I have tried doing the hoop stress calculations and I just can't figure them out

My chamber reinforce area is 1.18 from the barrel shoulder back 2 inches then tappers too .900 at the muzzle.

Any help please I would really like to understand this and be able to some day figure out what to do with all the numbers

Hey Cap. Welcome. You should post this question in the Gunsmithing forum. That's where the real engineers hang. They spout numbers I have no hope of understanding. Good luck. I am only able to suggest a stout load and a looong string.

Cap I'm curious about the question. Do you have some sort of concern? I recently built one of these. A simple Remington 700 action with a fluted Hart 5'ish custom contour barrel and she shoots .5 to .75 inches at 100 yds with Nosler FACTORY ammo. Just curious......

Yes sir my concern is at 1.17 is there enough metal there for my safety factor. The more I read tho the more I think I'm ok the other question is just simply how to calculate

My impression is that you will be fine. HOWEVER I am certainly no metallurgist or gunsmith so I will have to defer to Josh's statement regarding reposting the question on the gunsmith forum.
