Need a little advice

Been doing some load work up on the Win 284 brass Ive fired into 6.5. I had some ES problems but thats fixed with more neck tension and a tad more jam. My ES today was 33fps caused by a couple odd balls that Ive culled out. The SD was 8.4. Conditions were ideal except for one 5 shot group with heavy vertical boiling so I waited for some overcast. The best group was 7" with a couple of 8's and change and a few 11's. I know this rifle and I can do a lot better. Last year before I buggered up my brass we were shooting consistant 4 to 6" 5 shot groups. 142 MK's bearing surface and meplat sorted. 2976avg. MV with 52.3gr. H4831sc. Im thinking Im a bit out of a sweet spot. Maybe tweek up and down a 10th or two? 789 rounds down the barrel for those who are wondering.

I have found that my 6.5 likes .002 neck tension. I Jam all my bullets, especially bergers. Jam them 15-20 thousands. The neck tension allows them to seat, but not seperate from the brass in the case of an unfired round.

The vertical could be you or the gun...hard to say...you need to have someone watch you when you shoot.

Have you tried switching primers? PMC/Russian/Wolf large rifle should work nicely.

Did you debur the flashhole? Did you properly chamfer the inside of the case?

Since you metplated them I am assuming you did.

Hence I would recommend a primer change.

RHINOUT!

The ES and SD is very nice so I think the primer is working fine. When I did the ladder test with thenew brass I was working toward 2950-3000fps. I found a sweet spot at the high end but it proved a tad hot. I dropped a few tenths until it simmered down but I figure that took it out of the spot. I spent some time last night looking at the test target and it looks like a promising load at 51.5gr. which coincidentally would be about the same velocity as the previous load around 2912fps. The plan is to load a few groups at this and give it a try.

Taking a ladder result from new brass and applying it to 1x fired burnt me...had to up the charge .3-.5 to get back to the happy spot on 1x brass...
